Mine is a 2015 Octavia which does not have USB ports in the rear so I would'nt know. But I would assume that all USB ports would remain powered on even after switching off the car.

I have the same and it does have motion detection. Just enable the parking mode in settings and it turns on. Else, there will be a separate menu item in the settings that says motion sensor.
I do not know the exact terminology that they have used but am pretty sure it does have motion sensing as I use it when the car is parked and it starts recording when there's movement.

Also, I see there are complaints of loose connection of 70mai with the GPS module. This was a similar case with Viofo and it used to cause a rattling sound in the recorded video. Over time, the power was not being supplied to the dashcam from the GPS module and i had to power the dashcam directly by overriding the GPS module.
Something tells me this will be the case with 70mai as well down the line (maybe after 6 months of use). Since am planning to shift the Viofo to the rear, I was looking for a wifi based dashcam and had shortlisted 70mai. But the GPS module issues is something that I cannot ignore.

Are there any other capable dashcams within 10k? DDpai seems a good bet and they are capacitor based as well. Looking out for suggestions from users!

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I got AKASO V1 Dash Cam Car Recorder from US through a friend. It seems to be doing a good job and the video clarity is excellent. I got a 64 GB card Ultra Fast Storage (UFS) as an add-on, but the cam doesn't support that, now I am running on a 16GB normal SD card.

That's a relief, I wasn't aware of this until now. Found a few Youtube videos on how to activate it.

Cheers!

Hey, did you have any luck with this? I’m in a similar boat and want to find someone who can hardwire the dash cam.

I installed Dashcam yesterday and the rear USB port in the centre console is powered only on ignition.

Does getting the GPS module benefit in any way? Is it OK to get 70MAI Smart Dash Cam Pro without the GPS module?

TIA.

Yes you may get it without the module. Just that the ADAS module is required for recording speed in the video, the proximity feature etc. Even without the module, the camera will work fine.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Picked up a 70Mai Lite. I bought it from Amazon for Rs 4,999.
The seller E-hub offered, 1 year warranty.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_2907.jpg

After installing the camera, I took my car for a 40 km spin to see the clarity.

My other car has a YI smart.

So, let me compare between the two.

165 degree wide of the YI always offer a better coverage as compared to the 130 degree wide of the 70 Mai.

60 fps of the YI offers more smoother footage than the 70 Mai's 30 fps.

Once the G-Sensor detects a collision, 70 Mai will automatically lock the video to emergency file. This works even if anyone shut the door. YI do not have this feature.

Built wise both are at par.

Few screenshots to compare the clarity of both the cams-

YI Smart

Number plate is easily readable.

At night number plate is clearly readable.

At high-speed when the number plate is in the corner, reading it is difficult.

70 MAI Lite

Number plate can be read but not very clear.

Number plate cant be read.

Number plate cant be read.

In day light the number plate is readable but could have been more clear.

Verdict- 70 Mai is a good cam, if one just intend to keep the footage but the YI smart is a far better dash-cam.

This was my review after installing the YI smart-

After 1 year & 4 months, it's still holding up well.

The glue looks like it might not hold. Any reason why its so 'patchy'?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I posted my query here but could not make a decision.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modif...ml#post4760798 (BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0! Radar-based in-car surveillance system to catch vandals)

What’s the general consensus on the best setup if budget is not a consideration?

It just needs some more pressure for the glue on those patchy areas to come in contact with the glass.

IT's called a GoPro or SJCam. Both of these will work with handlebar mount or helmet or chest cam mount.
