Ford Figo DIY for USB cable! How do I DIY?

I've had enough of Ford service in Hyderabad. My Figo - 6 month old, had 4 trips to the workshop so far and it had me writing complaints to Ford India and the regional service manager about how pathetic their service really is . If that wasn't enough, the usb cable for playing audio via USB, is always out of stock at the Ford dealership!

So, I told myself that I've had enough of Ford service and I set out to Do It Myself.

No wonder I was under-equipped for this task:
1) I needed the U-pin to pull out my car stereo system.
2) I needed electrical connectors / pins for crimping.
3) I needed a crimp tool for crimping these pins.

I had these though:
1) A usb cable with male and female connectors.
2) The keycode for my stereo device.
3) Lots of patience (esp required for DIYs in India!)

Here is what I can't get help with:

I went to Xenex, and atleast 6 other car decor shops - all of them except for one shop, tell me that they can't pull the stereo with an Upin like tool! I am told that its company fitted and can't be done and what not! Road-side mechanics tell me they can't do it!!

I've asked for electrical pins, connectors, crimps - don't know what they are called in Hyderabad - but no electrical shop knows what they are or they don't have it!! They can't do a thing with my USB.

So here I am, almost hopeless. If you guys have done it or have any idea of where I could possibly get help, in Hyderabad - I'd love to hear from you!
TIA.!

Re: Ford Figo DIY cable! - How do I DIY?

You need to buy a special tool or make one to remove the stereo
If it may help -
I-Hacked.com Taking Advantage Of Technology - Coat Hangar Ford DIN Radio Removal Tool

After completing it do post the DIY here
It will help other bhpians as well.

If you do a google search for Ford stereo removal tool, you'll see youtube videos for the same.

By the way, which service center is giving you trouble - Fortune or Modi?

I know what this tool is. I have seen it at one of the car decor shops at Minister Road, who had removed the stereo using one. However, he said he would install the cable himself and would need my stereo for 2 hours - I didn't have time for all that, so I had asked him to put it right back in - I figured everyone would know about it - but no car decor shop near Madhapur seems to have any idea about it.

Its Mody Ford - their service is a joke. I will write in a detailed post shortly about their service.

Re: Ford Figo DIY cable! - How do I DIY?

From my experience, you wont need to remove the music system at all. All you need to remove is the glovebox. Also, the male-female type connector will not work. You wold need to connectors (the otherside of the cable which is attached to the HU is a squarish connector). You can find the image at http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offici...tures-136.html

Plugging in the USB cable is a straight forward job which would not take more than 10 minutes of your time. Just make sure you are hooking up the cable in the correct direction.

Re: Ford Figo DIY cable! - How do I DIY?

The mechanic's outside ARE able to remove the stock system, but it will leave marks on the fascia.
Guaranteed.
I spoke to a lot of aftermarket guys and was told this.
Drove down to a ford A.s.$, and it was done in 5 minutes flat, in and out.
Other option would be you could dig out a list of installers in your region, call and ask, and then go.

Thank you for your response. Like I said, one of the aftermarket guys removed the stock system for me and installed it back right away. It left no marks on the fascia. I was told that the pin sizes are usually standard and are dependent on the make of the OEM stock system (Blaupunt/Kenwoood/etc).

Re: Ford Figo DIY for USB cable! How do I DIY?

guys, any idea where I can get these in Hyderabad:

I know these are cheap like 5 bucks, but I can't find them in electrical shops (or I am not able to describe them good enough I guess - not sure what they are referred to as).

Why are you looking at electrical shops. just go to any car audio/accessory shop and they these things readily available. FYI I got 6 of these for free when I purchased a car cover for my figo in such a place

oh nice.. I didn't know.
I think I'll try for 'em in car shops - what do you call these pins? blade connectors?

Went to this car decors shop on minister road yesterday - asked 'em to install the usb cable - I'm told that it is a risk that I won't want - I should rather go ask Ford to do!!
I'm told that the player can short itself if I don't do it right and the that would damage the player permanently! I'm not sure why these guys are so worried - the pin diagram is pretty clear on the audio guide and many people have done well with the DYI - is it their ignorance or is it something I'd want to worry about?

When you say many people have done it, count me in too!
Infact I have made a very detailed pictorial guide on how to DIY in the gearheads forum.
Search in gearheads for
"A-detailed-FIGO-USB-complete-DIY-for-less-than-Rs.100!"

You will get this in any shop that sells electronic/electrical components, not a general electrical shop that sells tubelights and wires.

What do you need it for? These are crimp lugs used in electrical panels.

To be frank they dont!
I wanted to setup the USB connectivity in my HU and hence wanted these clips. He wanted 40-45 bucks for it. So instead of bargaining on the Car cover I picked up these instead of a price bargain
