Not yet got around to doing it. Wanted to include the S/N and other details when I call/email, but it is in the car and each time I come from the car I forget to bring it home and postpone to the next day.

So finally got around to calling customer care yesterday. Called the toll free number at around 6PM. Call got disconnected and immediately got an SMS that an executive would contact shortly. Today around noon a person called and I explained my situation. As expected no way to get a duplicate since there is nothing in their records to tie me to that SD card. I need to buy new.

The buying process seems a little complicated. He told to call him when I was ready to buy and would provide online details and link to pay and then they would ship it. That is a little confusing to me. They don't not have a direct link to buy the full version.

Also the cost is Rs 4000 which seemed a little high to me. I have used the maps 2-3 times in the last year. So now thinking whether to buy afresh or leave it.

Re: MapMyIndia Navigation - Review

Had a bad experience of MMI yesterday in Kolkata. The device became so much irritating that finally I had to switch it off. The map showed correct route but the voice guidance annoyed me no end to take a right turn, that too on a straight road with no turns. My past experiences were not that bad, but yesterday I felt like breaking the device.

You may want to talk with the management explaining that the MMI installation was OEM supplied by their partner - and so what's the recourse?

Now, my MMI Lx130 navigator has the latest upgraded version 9.1 maps. The new version 9.1 maps show the new state Telangana, whereas the MapMyIndia online maps still show the unbifurcated Andhra Pradesh.

Re: MapMyIndia Navigation - Review

I have got MMI Zx350 and would like to know how can I update the maps.

As mentioned by fellow bhpians on the signal being lost in NH47 after Avinashi and before Palladam, even I too experienced the same whenever I covered that route. In fact, during my first use of MMI to Ooty, navigator instructed me to take a left where I could not find any service road to the left. Had to waste almost 30 mins due to this as I took a detour. Similarly, signal lost when I was returning and after that have driven on NH47 couple of times where we used to laugh whenever the navigator instructs to take a U turn at the next intersection. This issue is for about 2-3 kms and the navigator gets signal automatically after that.

One more query - couple of times it has taken me to small roads into the town as the setting being shortest one. Am unable to find any option to change the setting to fastest, can someone guide me ? Thanks in advance.

I got the MMI Lx345 and trying to learn the User Interface. It's not as simple as Google Maps but it has got lot of options.

You need to buy an update and here's the link for the same. The latest version is 9.1. If your purchase is within 90 days, MMI gives you the latest map guarantee and you can update it for free.

As per MMI,

"The user can claim for latest maps within 90 days from the date of purchase. All you have to do is share the proof of purchase and warranty card showing valid MMI ID or SD ID."

I have a CASKA HU in my Amaze with Mapmyindia maps 9.0. I have created a route with 7-8 waypoints in google maps and want to transfer and use the route in my car GPS. Is there a way this can be done?

I don't think you can transfer way points created in Google Maps to MapMyIndia Maps. The only way (as far as I know) is for you to jot down the Longitude and Lattitude from Google Maps, and then feed them into MapMyIndia. Search for a place using Location Coordinates, and once MapMyIndia finds the place save the place. Then create a route with all these places as via points.

PS: This is what I generally do, when I do junction to junction plotting, especially for the umpteen ways you have to travel to Kerala .

Android standalone navigator with MapMyIndia Navigation - possible?

Folks,
Had a query here. Was browsing through aliexpress for navigation devices when I came across a few with Android as the OS like this & this . In addition to having android for an OS they also have capacitive touchscreen ( mapmyindia ones available in India operate on the Windows CE OS and all have resistive touchscreens - definitely not easy to work with)

What I was wondering was:-
  • Whether mapmyindia maps available as a download for android can be uploaded on such a device?
  • Will the originally loaded maps have to be uninstalled? Will it affect other software like the one for running the camera/DVR?
  • Will the Camera (DVR) software/ firmware continue to work alongside mapmyindia maps and navigation software once loaded successfully?
  • Will there be any issues?
  • Has anybody tried it before as a DIY?

Any pointers in the correct direction are appreciated !

Cheers !

I have copied the kml from google maps to the appropriate folder in mapmyindia micro SD.
Haven't checked it yet. Will let you know if this works.

Re: MapMyIndia Navigation - Review

I did some research on the possibility of creating routes on computer and copying them to my GPS having mapmyindia. Here is the gyan. First the basics.
The routes in gps are saved in the SD card at location E:\Res\itinerary ("E" may be different for your computer). The routes are not saved as routes but waypoints. So everytime you load the saved "route" from gps, the gps actually creates a route based on the waypoints saved in the route file (?). The route files are saved with .itf extension.
To create a route on your computer and load it to your gps, the following page has step-by-step instructions. http://www.createweb.be/wordpress/?p=920.
This worked for me. Hope it works for you also.

Aah.. that gives me an idea. Experiment with Python script, which would just have a small UI for me to punch in the GPS coordinates, and a preferred name for the spot and then the script would create a neat little "route" file for me .

And this idea of mine failed. Wrote a couple of Python Scripts which could create the file in the write format. How ever, MMI when a latitude and longitude are given does an internal mapping with its own grid reference system. MMI will only gets its grid reference, when we punch in the latitude and longitude through the device. Since my script is creating a file outside the MMI device, the grid computation cannot be done. I left the field as a blank in the file, and MMI complained of the route having the "same way points".

Hi Sachin,

Mine worked but with not more than 2-3 waypoints in the route. When I tried using more than 2-3, the GPS gave an error saying illegal operation performed.
One thing you can check is whether the input takes in long, lat or lat, long format. I initially used lat, long format and it did not work. I changed it to long, lat format.
Overall it looks too much of a effort given that it can take in only 2-3 waypoints.
Some more research is needed I guess.
