Is the VIN number same as Chassis number?
They are not the same I guess.
When does the dealer get to know about the VIN number? When the car is dispatched from the factory or when it arrives at there yard? I just asked my SA for the VIN number of my car ( Nissan Sunny) and he had no idea what it is. He said he will message me the Chassis number. Would that be of any help in identifying the car's manufacturing details?

Its not same but there are similarities for e.g Hyundai uses 17 characters as VIN and for Chassis they use the same 17 characters plus some additional characters there after.

Normally most of the sales persons use the term 'chassis number' for both.

After the invoicing done from the factory the dealer will come to know the VIN's assigned to them.

As per the previous experiences from owners it would be November 2011. But Please update us when you get your RC.

Hi Wildon,

I have taken the delivery in this week. Have not yet got the smart card. But the insurance policy mentions the year of manufacturing as 2011. Am ok with it as I intend to keep the car for long time and also have got discount factored in the price.

Thanks for the help and will once again update after a month or so when I get the smart card.

Hey,

I got the following number from the dealer for my Nissan Sunny. I feel this is not the VIN but the chassis number but they say they have only this and never heard of anything else. Please take a look at this and tell me if you can decipher anything from this. This is what they gave me 17C3008593. Do the C3 mean March,2012 as explained by you in your first post regarding Nissan? Any other information that you can decipher from this about the car?
