Wildon, this VIN seems to be different. It has only 11 characters and if the numbers are also included then 17. Could you help with decoding this?

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hi Wildon,

I got your message & tried to PM you, but got some error message about sending PM. I have got the RC book for Micra (smart card) and the date of manufacture is mentioned as June/2010. I got the car on 29/Jul/2010.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

Thanks

An Example:
If your 10th VIN character is A, then it represents the Year - 2010
If your 19th VIN character is G, then it represents the Month - July
I own a Hyundai Santro. 10th character in the VIN number is not an alphabet but a number. what does that mean?

Thanks

Please go through your VIN again, I think your car is a Pre-2010 model. In that case the 10th digit is the year. Example: If the 10th digit is 9 then your car is 2009 manufactured.

As your VIN's was MDHFBUK13A6xxxxxx, The 10th and 11th Characters are representing YEAR and MONTH respectively. So i rightly guessed at that time as June 2010 manufactured vehicle.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Great work wildon. Earlier i was thinking that chassis no. is just a unique number which differentiate your car from other cars, did not even guess that it can tell my car's manufacturing month and year.
This will definitely help anyone while planning to buy a new car.
A quick question, Is it possible to know manufacturing date by viewing chassis no. in bikes too ?

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Thanks Wildon -

It should be a Jan 2011 product, but then how do we determine if it is a Diesel or petrol and which model from GM?

Thanks & regards,

however in the fiat vin details you have mentioned

Year Codes:
MZ = 2011
NZ = 2010
QZ & PZ = 2009

was that a typo??

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

^^ The VIN contains only 17 Characters, rest are additional characters used by our Indian manufactures to identify the month and year in some cars.

So in the first 17 Characters you will never find I, O and Q.

Some call this as Chassis numbers.
