ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

The decode and example is different for year of manufacture.
It should be 21st character in the eg instead of 10th,right?
Also is it same for the new swift? coz I am going for PDI tomorrow.

Refer that picture of new swift chassis number location and see the last two characters. It represents month and year.

Hi Wildon,

Thanks a lot for this excellent and informative post. I just booked a Fiat Linea MJD and got to have a first look at my car at the dealers stock yard yesterday. The VIN 18th,19th and 20th characters were FMZ. From you post on FIAT I figured out that my car is manufactured in June 2011. Is that correct? I am taking the delivery in a week from now.

Correct. Do a PDI and then proceed.

The VIN is when the kit was made, hence it could be assembled in India even a few months after that, when the kit is imported. That is why your insurance paper says 2011.

PETROL Car, May be less demand.

Visit the Dealer stock yard to find out latest produced cars are available too.

If you are satisfied with the present allotted car after the PDI then go ahead or else ask from the latest batch.
