Yes, the year code will vary from brand to brand.

I have also been given 17 charactors for Hyundai Xcent which is MALA841CLFM092463. Is this not complete code ?

As per the below original post, the VIN has to be 19 characters in length.

Hyundai VIN

Do check it out and ask your SA once again.

The VIN number provided is incomplete and it must have 17 characters.

Thanks.

This if Ford EcoSport VIN, and am told these 7 should suffice to get at least the year and month, as some of the earlier posts indicate. Have not yet got the full 17.

If you had meant the last 7 characters to be 'FL42410', then it's May 2015 model. The eleventh character 'F' stands for the year 2015 and the twelfth character 'L' stands for the May month.

Could you please decipher this Renault code for me:

VIN NO: MEEHSRCFNF1002877

Thanks in advance!

Congrats! It's Jan 2015 model. The tenth character 'F' stands for the year 2015 and the eleventh character '1' stands for the January month. Is it Scala ?

Thank you. My friend is buying a Duster and the sticker has the VIN number mentioned above. The dealer assures us that the F denotes a 2015 model year.

However, the sticker on the car also shows a "Trim In Date" of 13/09/2014.

I'm wondering if someone's pulling a fast one.

Any pointers/suggestions?

I don't have any idea as what 'Trim In Date' means but VIN clearly denotes that it's a Jan 2015 model. Why Jan model as Duster sells in very good numbers for Renault ? Please ask your friend to do a thorough PDI.
