Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Today's ride turned into an off road adventure. The weather was great, almost Seattle like cloudy and gloomy but warmer. Great help from locals who pointed me in right direction. One thing though, we are really generous people. Whenever I asked if road was good ahead they would be "Ummm it's fine, some potholes. No problem" and those roads would turn out to be treacherous mud and cow dung filled tracks. Cycle held up well!

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Did a 62km ride on Saturday morning along with 3 other friends Nigdi-Ravet-Chichwad-Aundh-Pashan-Bavdhan-Chandni Chowk-NDA Gate and back. Below is the route map from that ride and other pics are from today morning's jog to the garden near my home. It was a lovely morning after heavy torrential rains yesterday.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Crash! Getting better at this even if I say so myself. Near perfect tuck and roll, barely 3 km into the ride, followed by pro tour style bang-set in place, roll of the wheels, and normal service resumed, completing the 50+ km ride after the crash. The key (from past learnings) lies in instant recognition (and acceptance, without blank panic) that you are going down. This is my 3rd crash, all three on different bikes, all 3 because my hands were not wrapped around my bare but resting on top of them, with a sudden road obstacle (this time the metro construction crapfest just before the RTO-COEP bridge) causing the hands to slip off the bars and all 3 times I've gone over the bars. This one was the least painful, so that's the silver lining. Saddle took the brunt of the hit on the right side, with the rails slightly bent and the saddle tilting to the right. Have tried to twist it back into shape. Hope it holds. Nothing to the rear derailleur thankfully. The cage helps. Lights and phone too came away unscathed, as dod the levers and shifters and cranks.

Ass saver.

At least you don't look like you've soiled yourself while riding. Lol

Also, many pro tour racers use the same on wet stages/races and especially the Monuments and One Day Classics (like the Milan San Remo this year) so it's Velominati kosher.

Here's Alberto Contador with his homemade ass saver made by cutting an old team water bottle.

65kms this morning! Did not push further as its getting really hot by 9am and staying out riding is far from ideal.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Been going on rides religiously. Completed monthly goal and getting faster average speeds. I'm happy with visible difference I'm seeing compared to say a month ago. Still far from doing 100km + rides but feeling better about it.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

In the run up to the Arkade Sahyadri Classic (ITT) event planned on 27-Nov-2021, did the first practice ride today to Lavasa (105km). We were 4 of us. Started from home at 04:45am. With 3 pits stops (Chande phata, Mutha ghat top, Temghar backwater), reached Lavasa main entrance at 08:30am. We were 30 mins late from our target. The biggest achievement was that we did Temghar backwaters to Lavasa top non-stop for the first ever time. Last ride to Lavasa was horrible, I had very bad cramps in my legs and I was literally lying flat on the road, screaming for help. This time no such issues as I kept hydrating continuously. Sharing some pics below.

Equally curious. How do those big dangly flopping mudguards do the same? In my experience, nothing short of a full cover fixed (with wire stays) mudguard protects you and the bike from mud. In fact, the various neither here nor there efforts mentioned above do more harm than good to the bike, trapping mud and slush on to areas like the saddle rails, frame seat tube split clamp, front derailleur mech, bottom bracket, crank and chainrings and chain (direct non stop mud bath). Probably the only vulnerable area saved by the front on is the headset bearing ar the bottom of the head tube.

The ass saver does exactly what its name suggests. Prevents the thick concentrated spray that's directed directly all along the line of the crack of your bent over ass (the natal cleft in technical medical parlance) in a brown pyramid of solid brown mud (as against the splatter all over your back, which the dangly ones don't prevent either). The ass saver also does a pretty good job of protecting the center pocket and contents of your jersey.

I've used the dangly ones two seasons and the ass saver two seasons. My views are based on my helmet and jersey and shoes and socks and bike which I wash myself immediately post every ride.

To go into slightly rawer detail, once completely wet and muddy, you don't feel the spray over your back and helmet. But the shower of mud water trickling icy cold down your crack you feel throughout. Most definitely.

Wow, that is a Pinarello Dogma F10. How much the owner paid for it?
