Re: The Bicycles thread

Went for a ride near a farmhouse past Nelamangala last weekend. Love my Montra Downtown Hybrid, was a breeze to manage on tarmac and off it.

Moving discussion back to this thread.

I have used Gators earlier and I agree they are puncture proof! But after riding Rene Herse's smooth rolling Bon Jon tires, I cannot go back to Gators. Besides, they are a pain to get off the rim when you eventually have a flat.

Agree 100%. It was a pain to put them on on the first time. Putting my Duranos instead was a breeze.

I guess I'll open the floor to get feedback on tubeless tires if anyone reading this thread has used them - hopefully you'll get some feedback eventually.

Thanks.
So, my confusion is because I am hearing conflicting opinions about them. At least 3 experienced riders hvae vouched for tubeless setup. but my local bike shop doesn't seem too keen on it. I wonder if they lack the expertise to set up tubeless tires, although that should not be the case since they have been in business for a long time now.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Does anyone know of a laptop bag which can fit the frame of a bike (as opposed to hanging a laptop bag on your back)?

Decathlon has one which fits on bike pannier, it is water resistant 15L capacity.

Thanks. This seems to fit on to a rear carrier? I was looking for something that fits the triangular frame in the front instead. Something that can be attached to the 3 pipes of the triangle.

I dropped him a PM on whatsapp to check with him if everything is fine. I was in touch with him till last week on whatsapp & he even congratulated me on my new bike on last Saturday (11-Jun-2022). Hoping to hear from him soon. Will keep you posted.

Edit: Just now got to know that Doc has taken a sabbatical from this forum. If anyone wants to reach him for their problems/ advice etc please reply me privately and I can share with you his contact details.

If you are looking for such an arrangement i assume your laptop is 13/14inch in size, still finding something that would fit in triangle seems impossible to me. You can use the laptop case and modify it to attach to the pipes to see if this works.

Many active/senior bhpians take hiatus from the forum - this is seen multiple times, across the years. Doc was busy preparing for a big race/event IIRC. Might have taken the time off the forum to focus on it and other matters. He's active on Strava and other social forums I guess, so it's not he is unreachable; just off TBHP for a while I guess.

You are right ninjatalli. He's taken a break from posting for personal reasons but is happy to help one on one should anyone want to reach out. You can send me a PM and I can share with you his contact details.

Re: The Bicycles thread

I see quite a few folks from USA on tbhp. Can someone lead me to online cycling stores for bikes and accessories? Also welcome if you could give me pointers on buying used bikes.

Getting a new bike is turning out to be exceedingly difficult even now. Almost every bike that I am (was) looking at in my size is OOS online and not available at any store nearby either. So I am scraping Craigslist and OfferUp. The used bikes are costing and arm and leg compared to just 2 years ago but can't help it in this market. Thanks in advance!

For used bikes, Facebook Marketplace is your best bet. Also, sign up on bikeforums.net. There's a very useful thread in there on ebay/craigslist finds.

As for online stores, check out REI. They have pretty generous return policies. You may find everything you need on Amazon but that is usually my last resort.

But I have found that building a rapport with your local bike shop is quite valuable. They are usually able to order parts for you quickly and can sometimes give you a good discount too on big ticket items where the margins are huge.
