How is the gearshift of your bike? I find the rotating thing much better than the switch type.
This is the preferred one by me, is this the same as your bike?

No, mine has the 'below-the-bar-shifters' rather than the 'hand-grip-shifters' as in your photo. I am not sure which is better since I am new to geared cycles. However in the show-room the high-end cycles had 'below-the-bar-shifters'.

Here are some photos of shifters on my Hero Octane Estes (had to wait till Sunday!)

1 - overall top view.
2- top shifter to go into higher gears.
3 - bottom thumb lever for rapid shift (can go down 3 gears at a time if needed).

I am very satisfied with these. However sometimes the shifts does not occur smoothly and I have to repeatedly press them.

I wanted to ask you this, is the bike comfortable for long rides say suppose 15-20 kms?
Are there any issues such as back pain or anything else?

At age 43+ I do feel comfortable!

The maximum I have done continuously is around 9 kms.
The max I have done on one day is 14 kms.

At most my bum pains a bit towards the end of the ride, otherwise it is fun.
(My body slowly got used to cycling in around a month).

I did a lot of reading on the net about bicycling, for example though my seat is very small and hard, it is still recommended and not to go in for large and soft ones.

After a lot of research, i finally got myself a bike! :D
Here are the pictures, it is a Raleigh elevation 2.0 26 with 21 speed shimano gears. I installed accessories worth 800 for now. Planning to get a cyclometer and seat cushion fitted.
Accessories for now, Blinking red light, and bell.

I bought the same bike from Hypercity, Malad 2 -3 weeks back

I am really perplexed as to how people accept "phoren" styles and designs blindly without consideration to Indian conditions. These cycles do not come with mudguard and flap by default. Whats the idea? Never take it out on the road from June to October?

How much was the damage on the pocket and where did you buy it from?

Had a question to all Mumbai folks: When/where do you cycle i.e. Daily mornings (as part of exercise) or on weekends or do you take with out on out of town trips?
The reason I am asking is that I am planning on buying a cycle so that apart from my morning walks, maybe I can cycle a little, hence trying to understand the nuances with the same.

There is nothing foreign about it, mudguard costs 300 Rs for this bike (its plastic).

Those short mudguards .. inspired by phoren designs of course where roads aren't puddled with muddy water or for real mountain biking where people are geared up and expect to get dirty anyways!! Do they save the cyclist behind you from being splashed with dotted mud patches all over the shirt? I doubt it! Might barely save your own back from the same fate ...

Store was selling both, metal ones that cover 1/2 well as well has plastic ones. Its upto you to decide which one you want.

At least in Mumbai, Bike is used only on weekends in places like national park where you are not likely to be crushed by cars and has suitable tracks for mountain biking.

And you carry bike on car to such places. Since these bikes not going to be used for day to day commute, expectations are bit different.

Cycle costs around 8k. It is totally worth the price.
I dont know any out of town places for biking specifically. Try lonavla.
I mostly ride the cycle in the mornings and late evenings to avoid traffic and pollution. :)
