Road assasin,

In order to fit disc brakes you need two things -

1. Disc brake mounts on your frame and/or fork - This is where the caliper mounts onto the frame - See pic >

2. A wheel which has a hub that has a disc mount on it - This is where the disc will mount.
There wheels are different from your regular wheels that allow rim-brakes. Sometimes you get wheels which have both a rim-braking surface and a disc brake mount. 99.99% you will have to buy new wheels for your topgear, thats IF the frame has mounts for the caliper.

hey rehaan after all this while of going crazy i finally sat down with the bike it was either going to b the gears or me sort of thing....i completly removed the front shift assembly n put it togter again with the help of ur tips n a little tweaking here n there i was able to bring it back to near perfection...but still not like the original setup though...dont know if i can achive that.....THANKS A TON BRO..really appreciate it

Dude, you're not getting the point, anything is possible but not necessarily practical........

We have the CBZ/Pulsar/Splendor disc brake kits available, right??

So like in the picture below, we can easily weld those brackets onto the fork to mount the calipers, then what??

Then we have to mount bulky hydraulic disc brake calipers onto the fork that usually do duty stopping a 150kg motorcycle!!!!

Then use one of those mega weight disc rotors, also the heavy and bulky hub of one of those bikes and thread the spokes from a cycle rim to a motorcycle hub!!!!

You might be able to pull it off, but think about the practicality!!!

For an idea here's a bicycle disc brake rotor and a motorcycle one!!!

Bicycle Cable Activated Disc brake kit!!!

Motrcycle Hydraulic Disc Brake kit!!!

I simply can't believe this!!!!

Firefox cycles have launched in Pune, and the friggin' showroom is so close to my place that it's not even funny!!!!

It's called 'The Firefox Bike station', will check it out over the weekend and put up a photo-report and price list!!! [apparently their cycles prices range from 2k to 25k, the top end one with a disc brake, decent i say!!!!]

This is crazy, these guys are taking cycling to the next level, and that's a great initiative!!!!

Yes, my brother who lives in Chandigarh and is big time into bike trips; in fact he has done trips past Shimla and Rekong Peo and quaint places in the Himalayas, has seen the Firefox store in Chandigarh.
Like me he is more into touring bikes and road frames. He saw some neat aluminium alloy frames there. Small frames as is the trend nowadays, and pretty stiff. Components are also high quality. Not Campagnolo, but still very good. But they sell components only to Firefox buyers.

Yes, it appears so. Go to firefoxbikes.com and you can see a number of firefox bike stations they claim to have or are planning. Bangalore is on the map. You could also post a query to know more.

Any updates from the biking community? I'm planning to check out the Firefox station in Malad, Bombay. Hypercity also retails Raleighs, and I ogle those everytime I go grocery-shopping for the wife. Haven't figured out what bike buy though.

in case people are still reading this section, there are these bikes being released by "LA SOVEREIGN" supposed to be some indo-thai joint venture.
i saw a few of them in mysore itself, pretty good for its price-
11k, but its a hardtail, discs on both sides,its got special clamping arrangement instead of nuts for removing the rear or front tyre in a single smooth motion and for adjusting the seat height,21 speed, and even the gear shifter was pretty cool, AND lightweight!
