Super thread! Tintin is one of my favourites. I particularly like Herge's attention to detail. In Tintin In Tibet, the Air India aeroplane has the country-correct tail number VT-DAO. Here is my contribution to the thread: a Dennis F101 from The Black Island. I bought it at the Tintin Shop in Singapore.
Wow what a post. This is why I love spending time on Team-BHP. I never knew that they would exactly match the car and the brand with such a high relevance. Good Stuff.
Such attention to detail. Hats off to the artist who drew these and thanks to you for taking the pains to locate the exact cars matching the sketches. I am sure not going to just ignore the details going forward.
As they say beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. With this post I can't help but admire the beauty of the original creations in flesh as well as on paper in the comic strip.
Very nice thread. Really enjoyed it. Brought back memories. Up until my mid 20's I was a very enthusiastic comic book collector. I had all the tintin, or Kuifje as they were called in the Netherlands.
I'm not sure if this ever made in to India, but some years ago, there was a bit of a debate in Europe on some of the TinTin books. Especially the ones where he goes to Congo, Africa. Some felt it highly inappropriate how Herge portrayed the Africans, how he made them speak etc.

In all honesty, I find this sort of political correctness total nonsense, but still, takes all kind to make the world goes round.
Books tend to be a reflection of their time. For better and for worse. You don't change history by banning books.

Absolutely right. Tintin did get a bit of flak especially for 'Congo' and 'Soviets'
Enid Blyton's Noddy was also 'politically corrected' because the 'powers that be' objected to the naughty Golliwogs! Frankly I quite liked those naughty Golliwogs in what was otherwise a rather 'goody-goody' sort of set of stories.
Rudyard Kipling is named as an Imperialist.
Notwithstanding all of this judgemental rubbish, they wrote lovely books and nothing can take that away!
Of course books do tend to reflect their times. Art or Literature as a reflection of life and all that jazz.
Hergé himself later expressed remorse over the book. "I was fed on the prejudices of the bourgeois society in which I moved," he said in the 1970s, and he made many changes for the color version of Tintin in the Congo, which was published in 1946.

So I got the book Tintin - Herge Les Autos today at the Tintin shop in Stockholm. This book does not have an English version at all so I bought it in French. No matter because it is just as enjoyable!
Also grabbed a set of Tintin cards depicting all the book cover titles in English. Very nice, except that only Land of the Soviets is missing.
Here the little cards are for your viewing pleasure. Laid out in near correct order of chronology...I think. OK I know I placed a few wrongly, notably Broken Ear...but, you get the picture right? I do need Land of the Soviets and Alph-Art though, to complete the sequence.
Today's TOI has an interesting article of Tintin in India. Considering Herge never visited India, the story was most amazing. The Cadillac maharaja car was also very apt.

Wow! As a collector of all things Tintin and as an amateur Tintinologist, i would love to get one of these! Any idea where I can achieve this from?
Here is the framed set of Tintin postcards. My spot of DIY seems to be marginally out of kilter but that doesn't matter. This has pride of place in our dining room above the sideboard.
Notice the two blank spaces at the bottom. These are for 'Lake of Sharks', 'Alph-Art' and any other that may arrive sometime.

Yes, you can use the form in the attached folder and order the black Ford Model T, and you will even get this free:).
There is also a comment about the colour of the Model T. In Tintin in Congo, it is black on the cover, but yellow inside the book. Apparently the reason for this is that yellow was a better contrasting colour to use, so it was a purely aesthetic decision.:thumbs up
