Visit to Mannheim Germany (Technic / Dr. Karl Benz Museums)

I was on a official visit to our factory in Mannheim which was once started by legendry Dr. Karl Benz (and now with Caterpillar). Here are some pictures to start with. Later I will post more pictures of the classic cars on the street and then 3 museums that I visited with tons of Automotive stuff, it all created a mayhem in my mind for what to see first. There were lot of original cars in perfect nick. And then I came to know what I visited was only tip of Iceberg, so for my next visit things are already lined up .

On to the pictures now

1.) Dr. Karl Benz Street

2.) Our factory building

4.) The poster depicting the Benz & Co. works

5.) The assembly line

6.) This picture has no caption and cannot hazzard a guess why these vehicles have lined up, all the same one.

Lovely!

Mannheim is also home to Lanz tractors, Bulldog being their most famous model. Bulldogji, I remember you here. Lanz is now with John Deere, they bought it up in the 1950's.
In Mannheim they have huge bits of machinery placed in gardens all over. There is a famous water tower, from there starts a wide strip of a garden with trees lined symetrically. If you go in the direction away from the city you land up at a Museum which has some nice stuff, a very old Benz fire engine, bikes scooters, I think even a working steam engine to go in and out. Must visit when you are there the next time, check http://www.technoseum.de/

Then you must go to the Karl Benz Museum in Ladenburg, maybe 20 minutes drive. Lots of Benz stuff, some important, and some other cars too.
Be careful about days when open, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. The timing is 14:00 - 18:00 Hrs. Check their site: http://www.automuseum-ladenburg.de/. You will enjoy this place.

Cheers harit

Nice pictures. Never got around to actually visit this Benz museum, but it looks definitely worth it.

The Speyer museum and also the nearby Car & Technology museum is also very much worth a visit. Only just an hour further to the south east is also the fantastic Mercedes museum.

Check out the links:

Also visit Sinnsheim Museum, they have both the Anglo/French and Russian Concorde planes. And lots of WWII stuff.
And a little further there is a crazy place called Marxzell, see www.fahrzeugmuseum-marxzell.de/ such a crazy place you will be astounded by the stuff, cars, bikes, trains, trams, parts of engines from planes shot down, relly true. Its an old windmill where they stored their collection. A DKW bike with side car fire engine among approx 20 fire engines. And they have tools, memorabilia, all sorts of rubbish we find collectable.
In German Museums always check the days when they are open, and the timing. This place is open in the afternoon only.

Cheers harit
