Re: Seat Covers: Imperial INC (Bangalore)

I am on my way to Imperial for leather seat covers for my i20 Asta (O) as it came with fabric seats.
It has airbags in front seats also, I am planning to get leather cover on bottom part of seats only.
In rear seats also, I am planning to get bottom part only.
Purely because fabric seats get dirty fast and not easy to clean.
Is it ok or should I be concerned of airbags functioning?

Edit: Just discussed with Shiva, he suggested to remove the fabric and go for complete leather. He assured that airbags functioning won’t be impacted as he has done lots of cars like this.

Re: Seat Covers: Imperial INC (Bangalore)

Hey,

The Imperial Leathers is asking me if I should remove the existing fabric and then get the cover installed.

They will return the fabric and I can attach it back if required. Is this a good idea? Will this protect the foam underneath from water and all?

Hi, it's an acceptable practice to remove the fabric seat cover, before adding art leather seat covers, so that we get a good fit. Since the material used it artificial leather, it should not allow water to soil the foam

That is the standard mode of getting a tight and snug fit of the leather covers over the original seats. The old practice of "slip on seat covers" placed directly over existing seats will not give you the custom made look that most of us appreciate and want. It is only if you remove the top fabric layer that the leather cover is able to fit on tightly over the seats.

In my case, he did give me back the fabric layer of my Honda City, but I did not take it since there was no use that I could perceive for it.

The seat covers installed by Imperial have held up very well over 2.5 years now. The leather has aged well and there are no discernible defects or damage of any kind. Money well spent for good craftsmanship, in my view.

Had been to Imperial and above link is my car seat cover done by Shiva and team. I am very happy with the work. Highly recommended. I had to travel ~25 kms but I feel it was worth it - professional and expert. Good value for money.

Once removed, I dont think these covers will be ever used again. So they will sit in your house gathering dust, till you throw them away.

So, it may make sense to just leave them there.

Downside: The OE covers will add to the thickness to a small extent. In case your car has a foldable arm rest for the back seat, then this will be a problem. If no foldable arm rest in back seat, I suggest just leave the OE Covers in place. And get the new covers on top of these.

Re: Seat Covers: Imperial INC (Bangalore)

This may sound strange but I am looking for seat covers for new Creta and really liked the leather seat covers in Seltos HTX IVT model. Does anyone know if we can get the similar covers made for Creta?

Do check with Shiva from Imperial. He has a diamond pattern which he maybe able to customise to more squarish. Not entirely sure.

Re: Seat Covers: Imperial INC (Bangalore)

Got the Seat done in Imperial couple of months back for my Honda City 2009 model, after going through reviews here. I was mightily impressed with workmanship and quality of seats work.
1. Went for top quality of Art leather, seat looks luxurious.
2. I was still running with original seat cover which came for 12 years.
3. He added cushion where required and bought back original stiffness level.
4. Seeing my add-on neck rest, he added a new add-on neck-rest without any extra charges.

Some pictures below.

Looks very good, the color choice is also great. Shiva definitely is a gem of a person to work with.

Shiva also has perforated material which might mimic the Kia seats IMHO. But I would recommend having a chat with him.

Re: Seat Covers: Imperial INC (Bangalore)

We got our Urban Cruiser's seat covers done at Imperial. Selected the design based on the earlier work done by Shiva (he has pics arranged in flickr). As usual, the work was done with high level of satisfaction. Attaching some pics.

Check out Saddles International. They are the OEM for Kia and should be able to do something similar for you. I got my Thar seats done from there just a couple of days ago and had a brief tour of their factory. I will wait for some time before writing a detailed review, but the initial impression is good. Do PM me if you want the contact details of the person I interacted with.
