Sourced some stuff from Opera House

Finally went to Opera House over the weekend and got some stuff.

I didnt cover the whole area but you will go crazy, there are so many auto shops out there.

First i went and asked for Hella Comet450. Price quoted 2235.

I thought better to check some local ones first. Atleast no tears if they get broken or stolen.

Got 2 Local Aux Lamps for 275 each from some small shop.

Got Clutch Plate for 2100. Maruti Vitesse had quoted 7k
Got 2 Philips Rally for 140 each.
Set of Locks (excl fuel lock) - 850. These were from laxman auto (Thanks Kaushik, the guy remembered you when i mentioned about you.) Maruti had quoted 2k+

Monroe Shocks - 3k for a set of 4. was not available at that time but he shall get it.
Aisin Hubs - 4.8k. Again he shall order once i confirm. is this price right.

Hella Battery Disconnector Switch - 225, 2 shops away from laxman auto.

My friend also shopped for 2 pioneer speakers for 2300 and a headunit called Convex for 1300, which BTW refused to switch on in the evening and he was forced to buy a Panasonic one.

Pics attached. Searching for a good mechanic who can fabricate rock sliders and a roll cage design for a flat roof soft top.

Suggestions for a good mechanic is welcome. Would be great if he is near to Goregaon, can keep an eye on the progress.

Thanks gurus

It’s pretty useful specially when you park your Vehicle in Unknown places. Gives little peace of mind.

Even I have similar one (I don’t know which brand it is) in my gypsy but it’s getting heated up sometime. And when it gets heated up, Engine doesn’t start. I have to wait till it cools down. This was fitted by previous owner.

Once I reach India I shall replace it with similar ones like yours. Do post some reviews of it.

Shouldn't be 2k+. The MGP price for Gypsy's lock set is ~Rs 1100.

OEM Monroe dampers for the Gypsy retail for Rs.1550 for all four.
Are the Monroe dampers your vendor is arranging different from the stock units?

I would say that's a fair price, go ahead and get them.

Cheers

Heated Up, how can a switch heat up the engine as this will only connect / disconnect the power from the battery to other required parts.

This is a bit worrisome. I never thought anything like this can happen. Nonetheless, i will fit it and check just because its a Hella Product and hoping that it shouldnt trouble me.

Other Users / Gurus can shed some light on this.

Actually 1200 plus taxes plus labour was what was told to me.

OEM Monroe dampers for the Gypsy retail for Rs.1550 for all four.

these are Gas Shocks that i asked for, i dont think the OEM ones are gas filled.

I would say that's a fair price, go ahead and get them.
I am planning to get these, was thinking whether the lamda ones would suffice as they are a bit cheaper i guess.

Cheers
Thanks for the info Gotzuk, i liked your bumper but feel its a bit expensive though.

Not Engine, The switch itself gets heatedup. All electricals works but the engine doesnt start. Its starts only after the switch cools down.

I have to see if this is a switch issue or something else.

Good stuff you bought for the Gypsy. In a way it is good you went in for VFM lights as it will be less heartburn if they get stolen/break in off-road scenario

I like the Battery Master Disconnect switch quite a bit. Will see if we can get this hella one here in Bangalore, else will ask you get me one.

Been on a shopping spree ha!
Good stuff ... I think even I should go to Opera one of these days to pick up the gas filled shocks + new lock set.

I'll be eagerly awaiting your first hand report of the gas shocks!
Please post the review soon macha!

Khan Bhai,

i shall be getting 2 battery disconnect switches for Shibu, if you require, let me know.

GS,
Last time was a case of being unlucky to the core, cant blame my poor friend for getting married on that day :( Waiting for the next one. BTW can you resend sripadhs number. my phone data got erased.

Kaushik Sir,

Have just changed the tyres till now and use it only on weekends as without AC its a pain to drive. But laxman auto is a treasure cove in my opinion for people like us to get a good deal on spares.

Imran Macchi,

I am yet to get monroes and Aisin FWHs. I need to call laxman auto and he said he shall arrange to get them transported to some place nearby where i stay. Tell me if you need, i can order for you as well.

I also met Chandrakant (a seat maker in Dadar as GTO had suggested in one of his posts). The seats can be made according to your choice. Approx cost for widening and adding more foam for 2 fronts alongwith the covers would be 1500.

and Gurus, please suggest a good mech for me.

Give it some time and then work out the details of the mods.Prioritize the list, and get started once you've become familiar with the working of the car.

Not many people like to name their cars, but how's 'Jimmy' for your Gypsy? Just a thought!
You may call her 'SANTANA' as it is called in one part of the world I dont know I had named my Gypsy SANTANA in 1989.
