The rc is valid up to 2030. Registration is done on 2015. It's an ex army gypsy as told by the previous owner. I'll post a detailed post regarding the restoration as soon as possible

Army has decided to phase out the gypsies in the coming years.. The Gypsy has lost out to Safari Storme.. very soon the market is going to be flooded with used gypsies..

Although it will take Army quite some time to dispose off all the Gypsies

Every Cloud has a Silver lining

We shall look forward to Army disposing off Safari Storme in near future too

Maybe they are phasing it out only for Officers. I don't think a Safari can ever equal a gypsy in terms of manoeuvrability, spares, and off road capabilities

I am just trippin' on this old Gypsy of mine...
Slowly but surely getting stuff done and enjoying the process. Ive even 'trail rated' it myself...
Long way to go to bring it up to where I want it, but it will be accomplished step by step...

Great buy, I've never driven/sat in a Jeep/Gypsy but I guess I can check that off the list if I'm around in the locality and see one with UP plates driving around

That rear space would be so ideal for the dogs as well, just a couple of yoga mats laid down perhaps, or soft rubber damping material glued to the floor.

Re: Maruti Gypsy Pictures

Posting a few pics of my newly acquired Gypsy King - first one being from the day of delivery and the other one post change of footwear. I never realized that I had not posted a single pic on this thread so far! Am yet to take the Gypsy for an outstation drive - will post some better pics soon with the Gypsy in its elements. Till then, please make do with these

Questions to Cool_dube:
- When was your new MG413W bought?
- Was there any difference in ride after changing tyres? If yes, pls suggest tyre specs.

Thanks.

Well, the Gypsy rode on OE tyres for hardly 20-25 km before the change. Based on the limited usage all I can say is that the ride quality on tarmac definitely improved quite significantly - more cushioned and composed. Steering effort while stationary did go up marginally, as expected. I went for Yokohama Geolanders A/T - 215/75/R15, currently the favorite on the forum when it comes to footwear change for the Gypsy. BTW, I had these tyres on my Jeep as well for 6+ years and they provided me with impeccable service, both on road and off it.

Hope this helps!

Congratulations Shankar, you finally found a muse !!

Now, share the hunt details please, I am also looking for one since almost a year now. And as you would have noticed, Bangalore prices for 15 yr old Gypsies are 3L+, God knows what these chaps are smoking.

Enjoy the slow rebuild.

cheers

Lazy - Bangalore is overpriced by at least 20% when it comes to used Gypsies and Jeeps. Moreover, there is no guarantee that you will get a clean piece. That is why I ended up buying one from Pune prior to the new one. However, the challenges involved with procuring out of state vehicles are manifold:

a) Cost of inspection - you will need to go to the other town to check the vehicle out which might not always be cheap, depending on the distance. Of course, it helps if you have friends in that city who'd oblige you.

b) Cost of transportation, unless you choose to drive it down which might not always be feasible and subject to the condition of the vehicle and the distance. I drove mine down from Pune, BTW - could not have done it if the vehicle was located any further up North.

c) Cost of re-registration, which could be significant given the atrociously high road tax in this state. I ended up paying close to 18K for my 18 year old Gypsy!

d) Hassle of re-registration, should you choose to get it done on your own, which I did and wished I had paid the demanded 10K to the agent instead!

If you are okay to cope with all of these, go for an outstation Gypsy. If not, keep hunting. There are quite a few ads on olx these days, by the way

Im going to get the Gypsy re registered as soon as the NOC arrives.
My plan is to enjoy it for a year or two.
And like Mr Cool_Dube I might also suddenly decide and upgrade to a brand new one sometime just for the 'enjoy' factor!
But no one knows whether the Gypsy will remain on sale for the foreseeable future or not...
