Re: Maruti Gypsy Pictures

Superb pics. Rare to see so many gypsies together! Getting extinct like sparrows. I used to visit Kaza very often and the only vehicles that would get you around in the thick of winter was the gypsy. Nice to see them frolicking in the snow.

385 BHP Suzuki Samurai with a Mazda Rotary Engine

Well, looks like Suzuki Samurai still has enough interest left in its fanbase for Motortrend to do a feature 26 years after it was discontinued in North America

Re: Maruti Gypsy Pictures

I came across this video of a 1992 Suzuki Samurai (SJ 413W) which is basically a Gypsy King with the same 1.3 ltr MPFI Engine though in a lower state of tune (60bhp). This vehicle is located somewhere in my province and has been immaculately maintained by its owner.

This video was made in November of last year in Alberta, Canada (not far from where I'm located). For a 29-year-old vehicle, it is tackling the foot and a half deep snow and -20C temperature on a remote logging road in the Rocky mountains with aplomb. Goes on to prove why people love this vehicle all over the world. Sitting halfway across the world I can only look at these videos and think of mine parked so far away....(blast this pandemic)..

Samurai was discontinued in North America in 1995.

Thank you! The front seats are from the Suzuki Esteem and the Headrests are from the Fiat Uno. The back seat has been taken from a Mercedes Van.

Re: Maruti Gypsy Pictures

Hello Fellow Gypsy Lovers,

I recently had a long time wish come true, when I had the opportunity to pick up a 2001 Model Gypsy King, Hard Top, MG 413W, Ex-Air Force Vehicle.

This was purchased from an agent who purchased it at the auction. I'm waiting on the paperwork to be completed. My cousin who is also a Gypsy fan came across this offer and after our initial investigation I decided to go for it.

It has done about 36,000 Kms and the engine is in good condition. The body itself is in good condition for a 20 year old vehicle.

Some small work we had to do on the body:

1. Ignition Starter Set was replaced.
2. Bonnet has some dents which we will take up once the papers are complete.
3. Missing Floor Mats which I replaced.
4. Missing Bushes.
5. Dashboard is in good condition, except it's missing the clock.
6. Seats need to be replaced, we have a pair of Innova seats we are thinking of installing.
7. Back door beading was replaced.
8. Door Pads were replaced.
9. Right Side Window Gears were replaced.

Electrical Work:
1. For the most part all the electric components were working, headlights, indicators and parking lights.
2. Replaced some bulbs and on the advice of the electrician, we installed an Electrical Kit.

Engine Work:
1. Apart from the regular Oil changes which the agent had done we have not done anything yet. However, we are planning on doing a general service soon.
2. We were missing the Viper Fluid Bottle which we purchased and had installed.

Problems:
1. Steering was very hard initially. This was primarily because there were 4 different types of Tyres. After installing the tyres and putting some Steering Oil, the stiffness has reduced about 80%.
2. Left Front Wheel is shaking - After installing new tyres, we found that the left front wheel was shaking, have asked the Mechanic to look at this.
3. Wheel Alignment - Due to the issue with the Left Front Wheel we will have to wait for the Wheel Alignment.

Other than this, no major issues thankfully.

I paid 2.25 L for this. I probably overpaid a bit, but it's the best over payment I have ever made to be honest.

Now some pictures:

Re: Maruti Gypsy Pictures

Congratulations! Enjoy modding your new Gypsy in the coming years. The jack rod goes into clips at the front seat just above the footwell.
