Exactly, any 4WD vehicle can do that, it is a standard ramp test to check the articulation. I have often fantasized about setting up a ramp like that in my backyard.

So let's not compare it with the Fortuner in India. The Indian Fortuner doesn't have rear LSD, didn't see in the specs. It only has center LSD like the GV.

DKG, as you are aware, any full-time 4WD needs LSD in the center diff. The only locking available in Fortuner or GV is locking the center diff. The front and rear diffs always remain open. However, Safari being a part-time 4WD, doesn't have center diff, but has rear LSD. Scorpio has no LSD anywhere.

Here is a very illuminating link... Toyota Oman - Specifications - Fortuner

All versions of Fortuner have LSD on Centre diff. That is a must for fulltime 4WD as I mentioned before.

However, the top-most variant, Fortuner 4.0SR Super SPL has Diff locks (not just LSD) on the rear. See bottom of that page.

I think this clarifies the matter.

Edit: That also means you can import that part and add diff locks to the rear, damn!

No GV variant comes with rear LSD or rear diff locks. There is TCS in some variants, but that can't be added so easily.

Check again, even I will on my part, even the Indian Fortuner would have rear LSD, it is either this or rear diff lock on all Toyota SUV models be it Prado, LC, Fortuner, Forerunner, Hi Lander or Sequia or RAV4.

Sudev can kill the suspense, if he has access to owners manual
Check what oil goes in center diff, front diff and rear diff.
If front and rear diff take in same oil, means both are open diff.
LSDs usually take in SAE-90 oil like Castrol Transpower or Dana 90

Just spoke to Toyota Customer care in Bangalore on 080-66293001.

They have confirmed that the Fortuner being sold in India does NOT have Rear Differential Locks and only Center Differential Locks.

There is a Forum in South Africa called 4x4community.com and has a number of posts and threads dedicated to the Fortuner.

There they have both center and rear locking differentials in the Fortuner available and some people have even got FRONT locking put in aftermarket from a company called ARB.

There were some rollover issues reported in the old Fortuners which now have all been sorted out in the facelifted version.

Most of the owners there swear by their Fortuners and a senior automotive journalist called Andrew St.Pierre White on 4xforum.com was very impressed by the Fortuners off road capabilities.

I shall quote him directly below..

"I have experience of the Fortuner. I regard it as one of the best off/on road compromise SUVs, with an unusual blend of road manners and true, rugged (not just posed) off road ability. This means that there will be users that take full advantage of its suitability for outback travel. This kind of travel means gravel roads and corrugations. The Fortuner is, by and large, a good performer in these conditions, easy to drive and comfortable." Andrew St.Pierre White

..you are right! The level of information given on the 4x4 systems is truly substandard.

Even the Sales person who i am dealing with was urging me to drive the car in HL mode on dry tarmac..i told him it would damage the drivetrain. He had no idea about the 4x4 system or if the car had centre or rear or both locking differentials!

I bet he thought LSD was some kind of drug!!
