Thanks for this writeup, have been considering a secondhand Getaway or Xenon as a replacement for the Marshal, and this is helpful. Saw a local 3L 4x4 here today (I had thought 4x4 was only on the 2.2), a 2014, and the owner seems quite pleased with it. Says the suspension is good, that it's as smooth as a Volvo bus on-road... and claims the 3.0 is quite powerful and more trouble-free vs. the 2.2.

Just to note here, a tyre 3-inches larger in diameter will increase ride height / ground clearance by 1.5"... i.e., the radius.

Is Xenon XT still sold by TATA after BS6?

No it is not sold after BS6. There is a commercial version (yellow board) with front leaf springs and also 4WD for sale with the BS6 version of the 2.2 dicor engine.

With the Isuzu vcross not getting latest version, looks like it's going to be a lot more waiting for a contemporary pick-up that is not commercial segment driven

Re: Tata Xenon XT (EX 4X4) - Ownership Experience

Its been 5 years now and the xenon has clocked 27K kilometers. I know its less, but due to the lockdowns and the travel restrictions could not use it as much as I could as before.
But, I just did an Ooty, Wayanad, Karnataka trip and the xenon was our home for a week, No Hotels or restaurants. We cooked our own food and slept on the truck. The freedom to travel on your own terms is something that needs to be experienced.

Apart from regular service so far, the xenon is a hoot to drive and never disappoints. Here are a few pics of our hotel on wheels.

How about the safety aspect while camping in the open? And I mean more from a theft / dacoity perspective and not so much from a wildlife perspective.

Are there any designated camping sites?

I haven't encountered any issues till date on my camping drives. No one bothers you really unless you are parking at a densely packed residential area or a private property without permission.
We have always travelled to touristy locations where people assume that you are just camping and they dont bother.

Unfortunately there are no camping sites. But certain places allow you to park and pitch your tents for a few bucks.

We never camp over a day at a particular spot for over a day, just to be safe from prying eyes.

But We do take some precautions, like we carry a can of pepper spray and there is always a hockey stick handy. you never know.
