Aren't the Chinese non popular MT Tyre companies having a ball due to the import complication in India. Every other day there is a new MT tyre in online market from some unknown company being sold at Premium price.

I remember few years back everyone used to talk so much about the Tyre quality and safty issues but now if it has Mud pattern it is Premium.?

There are numerous articles on the thar but surprisingly none have discussed anything about the options we have for the tires in depth. I wanted to change the tires from the stock and have thought of the number of choices but am a little skeptical about the larger tire mentioned in this thread as I feel they may touch the under body during off-roading. The tires sizes I was looking at are as follows please share your experiences if you have driven any jeep with the upsized tires.
Stock : 235/70 R16
Adventure: 235/85 R16
My other options for upsizing are:
LT235/80R17
LT245/70R17
My major using is on bad roads(80%) and occasional off roading(20%) so I want to keep a low aspect ratio that why I was thinking of going in for 245/70R17 any comments/experience?
I am lookin for BFGoodrich TA K/O can anyone suggest me a dealer where I can find this tyre and whats the approximate cost?

Check with your dealer on the Thar warranty and non OEM tires
AFAIK - changing tires breaks the warranty.

I was looking out for 30/31 Inch Off-Road Tyres and found Speedways. I met their representative at the Auto Expo too, and had a look at their tyre offerings. The Offerings look good and well priced (not cheap, but not inflated either). Here are the options from their stable for this size range. Does someone have experience with these?

These tyres are available in multiple Ply Options 4/6/8, and can be ordered directly from the company in Jullandhar.

PK-303 is rib type tyre. (similar to stock gypsy tyre)

R1 is R1 :D so check if your axles can take the additional load.

Military is NDMS pattern but very narrow design.

BTW some tyre retailers are not happy with speedways after sales service.

so think twice before buying.

Does someone know what is the rated load for the Axle & Bearings? In any case, I am not going to add any offset, to avoid making things worse.

7.5x16 is a size I like a lot. Yes, they may be narrower, but very good for the job. NDMS patterns perform brilliantly on the CJs.

Secondly, these were prices given to me for directly ordering from the company. I would not go through a Retailer. Also, at these prices, would I really care about After Sales Service? I don't think so... I will simply replace a tyre if I hit a problem. :D

By the way, do you have any performance experience with these tyres, offroad and onroad? Onroad - will they stop properly under hard braking from say, 110 kmph? I DO NOT go over that, on the Gurkha.

@roy: As you correctly pointed out when you get tires this cheap who cares about after sales service. It's not like we want an extended warranty on a 3K Tire.

Regarding NDMS, I feel it works well only in light vehicles like the CJ3 and only on hard surfaces. I have 6.100x16 NDMS on my Thar DI and it doesn't work too well. Maybe wider 7.00 or 7.50 x 16 will work better for a bigger vehicle.

^^^ I was targetting the 7.5x16 size only, as I said earlier. This Gurkha has earlier run on JK LT 4x4 in a 7.5x16 size, and it was just perfect.

The reason I brought up Speedways on this thread, is to understand what is the experience with these tyres w.r.t Braking On Road, Rubber Hardening, Rubber Cracking, Wear Off (Abration) Rates etc.

After all Tread Pattern isn't everything now. So, while we have talked about the NDMS-like tyre above, there are still these two:

1. How are the PK-303 Off the road?
2. Can the Gurkha handle R-1? Is it any good? I can consider moving to Alloys if it brings down the overall weight.


By the way, I am currently running on JK Elanzos (Highway Tyres - 6000 kms and around 10 OTR's). I have blown (and replaced) one of them due to a Sharp Rock penetrating the Sidewall. But, apart from that, they have performed decently, when brought down to about 20 psi.

I am doing an SPOA modification on my gypsy king. I am here to discuss the various tyre options that I can consider for the gypsy after the spoa lift. I have read the experiences of Khan_Sultan who first put Maxxis Trepador m8060 tyres in 235/75/15 size and then went for the Yokohama Geolandar MT in size 31x10.5x15 in his spoa'd gypsy. I currently run the F78-15 stock nylon tyres on alloys on the gypsy currently.

The specifications of my alloys are :
Size 15" x 7"
Diameter (inch) 15
Depth (inch) 7
Offset (mm) 13

My questions are as follows :

1) What are the various tyre brands that I can consider for the spoa'd gypsy which can be fit on the 15 inch negative offset alloys that i am currently using.

2) What are the various tyre sizes that i can consider (whats the max size that I can consider) that I can fit without having to use spacers. I am willing to do any required modifications to the wheel well / front bumper to accomodate this tyre.

3) I am not limited by tyre brands available in India and I can also source my tryres from Dubai. So feel free to give me suggestions on all possible tyre brands and sizes for my gypsy.

Anyone who has got these set of alloys, please can you tell me what is the PCD and what is the width.

I just got Yoko Geolandars 265/70/16 A/T-S on my 4X4 AT Endy. Had to shave off a bit of the front mud guards coz, the tires would scrape against the small corner in the inside of the front mud guard on turns and make a wierd sound. Got them from New Delhi.

Congrats! I got 31x10.5x15 Maxxis Bighorn MTs for my Endy. Lifted 2 inches with 15x8j steel wheels with -23mm offset. It looks amazing. Here's are some pics:

Today I picked up a set of 5 used (90 % life left) tyres for my gypsy at an amazing cost of Rs 21,000/- . Size 215R15.





The tyres were branded "Bridgestone RD 703 Steel M+S" and 4 of them had rivets along the edges of the tyres (please see the attached pic) Tyres were made in Japan. 4 of them had serial number EP19 CMB1501 and 1 had serial number EP19CMB343 .

Any idea what year were these tyres manufactured and what tyres are these. Google search is not giving me much info. I have picked these up for my upcoming monsoon explorations and as a standby set for my vehicles.

What are the rivets for ?

More sets are expected where I got these from.
