Hi Sudarshan JEE,

More Load on the Hubs - Only if the Bigger Tyre is Heavier.

More Load on the King-Pin if the tyre is Taller.

Since the Ford Endy has OEM 15" Rims on the earlier models, Toe-In/Caster /Camber/KPI will be well with in limits.

Interestingly the newer Ford Endys are using a Ford 9 instead of the Dana 44 :D

Hi Arka what's the difference between the Ford 9 and Dana 44 rear axles? I know that new ones have a torsen LSD whereas the older ones didn't. Is that it?

The Dana 44 is a Fixed Third Member Construction.

The Ford 9 is a removable Third member/Witches Hat Construction.

Dana 44 uses a 8.5" Crown gear

Ford 9 uses a 9.0" Crown Gear.

The Dana 44 has 2 Pinion Bearings, the Ford 9 uses 3 Pinion Bearings.

Just to be safe can you post a few pics of your Rear Differential & Pinion Yoke Assy.

I may have it confused with a Ford 8.8.

Thanks, Sudarshan. The "more load": do you think that it's irrespective of on-road or off-road or is it specific to one. The way I understand it: the weight of the car on 16" rims is now going to be borne by 15" rims, with heavier tires. Sounds like I'm overdoing this.

Re: the alignment stuff, if I decide to go for this, should I tell the guys at the garage specifically to take care of this, or will they do it? FYI, I have attached a WA reading that I did at the FASS about a month back, when I reported a left pull.


Since I wanted to upsize, I wanted to go wider and taller (not much, though). Hence I didn't consider the 255/65R16. ISI import restrictions restricted availability of bigger sizes on 16" rims. Hence I went in for the 265s on the 15". I originally asked for 265/70R15 (the current Pajero size). The guy at TyreStore says he can offer 31-10.5-15, so I am checking on that as well.

1. 265/70R16: this is a 8.17mm (0.35%) difference in circumference. This seems the ideal fit.
2. 31-10.5-15, which is actually 30.7-10.5-15. I read somewhere on the net that the closest standard size is 265/75R15. Going by this, now, this is a whopping 91.42 (actually 4-5mm more) difference in circumference. The only advantage I can see in the 31-10.5-15 is better grip during cornering and braking, and is better looking than the current skinny tyres.

I request the experts to guide me in few things i am struck with.

Picture 1:
Firstly, my Cj3B is running on 7.50-16 rebuit tires
Secondly, it is fitted on army 550 rims

I have excello or XLO type steering and do not experience heavier steering with the above set-up.

I thoroughly enjoy the extra GC with these set-up, but still want to listen and go by the experts opinion

I also want your help in identifying the tires fitted on the other jeeps i picked up the photo from one of the Post OTR reports on this forum. Hope the owner doenst mind?

If possible use the regular JEEP rims with the re-tread tyres, your King-Pin, Leaf Spring and your Bottom will thank you for it.

thanks again for the inputs, though the Krawlers are attractive and a definite good shoes to show off, they are out of my budget limits, i will definitely sink:Frustrati if i go for them.

for me, I feel it is sensible and will get some breathing economic space by purchasing MRF NDMS or Speedway Military Tires or ATF Farm tires which fall in line for around 25k for set of 5 tires.
