Re: CJ3B Hurricane engine queries (engine oil etc.)

**BUMP**

Folks,

Need some help regarding the carb of a 1962 Hurricane; looks like I need to get a replacement as the current one is leaking and non-serviceable.

Any suggestions/thoughts on how I can get a replacement; would appreciate any help or guidance in this regard as I am quite clueless.

Would be a Carter. See if you can source a NOS Solex + adapter.

Best of luck.

Thanks @Sutripta!! How does one make out if it is a Carter or Solex!? Have attached a pic, is it possible to make out by looking? I tried searching on the net but couldn't figure out, they all look the same!

Also, any pointers on where can I source these in India!?

That's a Solex. What is the exact problem?
Hyderabad Jeepers not being able to help you?

Thanks again Sir. The carb is actually leaking petrol from one of the Jets, the choke is also jammed. Per the mechanic, it has to be replaced preferably. I am not part of that group Sir, but I did enquire in the Old city side where old Jeep restorations are usually done, without any luck so far!

Re: CJ3B Hurricane engine queries (engine oil etc.)

Go through the Jeep threads, find out the Hyd. movers and shakers, and PM them.

You don't really need the choke. As long as it is stuck in the inactive position, you are OK. In any case it is just a disc which rotates to line up an orifice. Shouldn't be too difficult to free up.

Petrol seepage: hope it is not from the base of the main spray tube (the one which holds the emulsion tube + air correction jet). That usually happens if someone with abundance of enthusiasm had pulled it out for a thorough cleaning! This is next to impossible to stop. Anything else, a bit of juggadry should work.

One thing to be careful about is that quite a few of the threads on the carb are nonstandard. Something which our mechanics will not notice (or even know about) and might damage the threads.

If you could post clear pictures of the fuel seepage, maybe some people can advise.

Thanks a ton again Sir! . This sure is quite enlightening; never knew about specific threads!

I'll come back on the exact leakage point and pics when I get to my mech.

Cheers!
