Continuing from where I left off in the last post.
On this particular OTR, due to the absence of a few key members, I was asked by UBS sir to Marshall the event. Which actually meant that I was not going to drive my Scorpio 4wd on this event. I was driving something else, more of that later!
However, as luck would have it, my Scorpio 4wd somehow did not miss the event due to culmination of various factors. The vehicle (which I call Marengo) also showed me that it's not dependent on me, to enjoy what it does best!
The night Before the OTR, my father expressed the willingness to join an event. So did my cousin Brother, Bhpian Shourya_Lahiri and to top it, sequence of events with bhpian Samba's machines, lead to a condition, that the Scorpio would still need to go to the OTR.
So for most of the OTR, my vehicle was mostly used among bhpian Samba and my father. My camera was shared by bhpian Samba and bhpian Shourya_Lahiri
So all the pictures of this event you see, are courtesy them. However, I have mostly no clue, who shot which snap, unless one of them is present in the snap!
So sharing pictures of Bhpian Samba actually rocking it with my Scorpio 4wd. He was actually quite effective with it.
There were just a few obstacles that I took over, mainly because they were mostly Scorpio non-compatible obstacles!
The Hilltop, as the name suggests, its an ascent and a steep descent back to back, a bane for Long wheel base vehicles, unless a little momentum is maintained, where the front wheel lifts for a bit with just a dab of the throttle at the top, to clear the ridge, (throttle lift-off just at the point of landing to take the descent)
Ascent
Followed by steep descent,
The famed Table top!
However, the highlight for me on this particular OTR, was my "almost 70 yr old father" (he will turn 70 within a month!). This was his first OTR. Generally he hasn't warmed up to my Scorpio, he has always been a little uncomfortable with its soft suspension setup (he loves to drive my Ikon 1.6 though). But then, he drove it on the OTR!
Here is a pic of a 70 year old first timer, trying to take on the trickiest obstacles at the venue. Not only is the climb steep, there is a drop within it, also, one has to stop exactly after the rear wheels climb the slope, otherwise, there is a deep hole on top of the table. To top it, the drop on the otherside is steeper.
What surprised me was that, he chose a very slow approach and I was sure that he would either stall the engine, or loose traction. There was minimal dust trail.
Surprisingly enough, neither the wheels lost grip, nor the vehicle stalled, it also stopped right after the rear wheels cleared the climb (but with the slow approach he chose, that stopping wasn't even a challenge)
Ending this post with this fabulous pic shot by Bhpian Samba! Of me, spotting/marshalling my own vehicle, driven by my old father! Thanks Samba a lot for this one! The look on my face, kind of reflects my disbelief (with the speed of approach).
Finally they have bonded :-(
