Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

Never liked this car. But this particular face lift looks like a piece of cheap candy that your mother forbids you from eating because it probably has a lot of cancer causing dyes and what not. What a horribly ugly car. That rear bumper doesn't even know where to go, it just sits there like a tub of lard.

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

thanks for your input. See, I have also been a fan of Duster being the first family SUV which other car makers have copied, but again Renault will have to seriously think about the comfort, entertainment of cabin members. interiors plastic fibers are cheap, dashboard & steering are not so attractive, they could have been better. However, driving duster is a pleasure

Hmmm, so they took 2013 Dacia duster headlights. Wish they would have taken the grill too!

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

A combination of some decent elements and a lot of YUCK aspects. Pink? In Interiors in an SUV?

Would not expect any significant impact on sales. Too little too late.

Oh super, after waiting for a much awaited facelift all this while (one of my relatives was expecting some big changes in the interiors) all we get is a 2013 Dacia Duster, wow couldn't believe their confidence bringing a 3 year old variant

Agreed that Duster is a very competent model on its own and its suspension is as smooth as silk but isn't is now ageing fast. At least they could have revamped the interiors much more extensively. But look what we get is some updates on the Terrano version of the Duster and some pink interiors

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

I have got 3-4 points on new duster facelift

-Duster steering should be made sporty. It looks dull even after silver police.
However it is better than Nissan Terrano
-From rear side, duster sometimes looks like 'Tempo', However it looks
muscular from front side
-Even after new seat upholstery, No comfort for rear passengers

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

I've always been rooting for the Duster (and Terrano) and have been hoping and praying that they improve the ergonomics and premium-ness of the car (so I can buy one!!). But the attitude of Renault-Nissan has been sadly noncommittal, especially in light of the competition. One can appreciate the ride, ruggedness and utility factor that a Duster provides, but at the same time, there is an expectation of quality, features and ergonomics that one has when plonking down 15+ big ones. The benchmark wrt interiors & ergonomics has been set for this price point (or even lower) by the likes of Hyundai and consumers will be conscious that a Duster or Terrano simply doesn't match up in these departments.

Renault needs to invest a bit on actually upgrading the interiors and not doing some hasty patchwork which they claim is an "uplift". Some points to appreciate in this facelift:
- climate control panel finally makes an appearance
- ORVM controls in their proper place now
- driver armrest is a good addition
- didn't see this noted on the thread, but it seems that the door locks inside are now integrated into the levers and aren't sticking out above the door panel anymore!

But there are several major ergonomic and visual flaws that need fixing:
- power window switch console & speaker box looks like an aftermarket add-on (like those Autocop power window sets of old). Poorly placed too - bangs against the knee
- centre console is too flat and touchscreen HU is placed at a very low height - makes it hard to see and operate. HU design is also very outdated
- overall dashboard design is very 1990s .. needs a design overhaul
- a central armrest cum storage unit is really needed to cover the handbrake and provide some concealed storage
- instrumentation dials & MID are crying out for a modern touch
- a better steering design with controls on it
- a start/stop button would be in keeping with the times*
- improved plastic and switchgear quality
- a dead pedal (doesn't have one, right?)
- sunglass holder, illuminated vanity mirrors, electrochromatic IRVM
- better ICE. Maybe standardise that Rockford Fosgate setup from the Terrano Juke special edition

And on the outside -
- change the door handles to pull-type ones instead of the 20 year old flap ones and integrate the lock into it (that floating keyhole reminds me of an Amby/800!)*
- keyless entry*
- puddle lamps
- DRLs and projector lamps
- convenience features like follow-me-home headlamps*
- wish they'd used the grill design that Tanveer referred to in his earlier post (similar to the Kwid's design)

[*these are features present in the cheaper Scala/Sunny]

Wishful thinking? Not really, I think. Just things that they have to incorporate to stay relevant. Had their sales been so good that they could get away with not investing in these upgrades, it would have been a different story. With the likes of the Creta, S Cross, XUV etc. going strong and the Brezza and BRV coming soon, Renault have to be decisive in modernising the Duster.

Phew! Long post..!

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

Had a stint in the Terrano as a passenger. I wish better, bolstered seats for the front. Rear seat comfort was ok, an yes, a bit more space as well. Dunno, but feels cramped than a Yeti.

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

Even i was expecting better upgrade on the interiors. I have been a huge fan of duster driving pleasure and was waiting for facelift - to buy it. But now i am confused again on whether to invest or not.
What if we want to invest in after market upgrade and completely redo the interiors - right from steering, music controls, touchscreen navigation etc. ? How much will it cost ?

Also When is Renault opening the bookings for the facelift Duster ?

Re: Renault Duster Facelift @ Auto Expo 2016

30 Min time out expired. Please Merge if necessary.

The App is available in the Play Store. Although not explicitly called out, I could infer the following.
  • AMT in the Mid RxL and top RxZ 2WD 110PS variant.
  • No airbags in the bottom 2 variants
  • Only Driver Airbag in the RxL and RxS. Only the top variant gets 2 airbags
  • ABS standard in all but the base variant.
  • AMT gets Hill Assist and ESP.
  • AVN System, Auto AC available, Reverse Cam, Cruise Control only in the top end.

Booking can be done on the App. Booking amount is Rs 10,000

In this age where even the Alto gets optional airbags and pretty much every new launch gets standard safety features, seems inexplicable that Renault is offering the complete safety package only in the top variant. A lot of common features are also restricted to the top end. The AT is a welcome addition, but at 14-15L OTR one would have expected a proper AT box.

This is simply unjustifiable and extremely stupid on the part of Renault India!

Here I was, hoping the Duster facelift would get dual airbags & ABS as standard on all variants, so that the stubborn fools at Hyundai would realise their folly and equip the Base & S variants of the Creta with dual airbags. But Renault have turned out to be even stingier than Hyundai on the safety front!

Do they think the Duster is an affordable A-segment car like the Kwid? Even the Pulse gets a standard driver airbag, for crying out loud.

This is just a pathetic move by Renault!
