Turkey: Fiat Linea replacement to go into production in 2016

Italian carmaker Fiat is planning to invest $ 1 billion in Tofas, its joint venture in Turkey, to build a range of new cars that are believed to be replacements for the Bravo, which is sold in Europe and the Linea, which is sold in Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey. Production is expected to begin in 2016 and run till 2023. A significant number of the cars produced are likely to be exported.

Last year, Tofas had announced that it would invest $ 520 million to produce 5,80,000 units of a new sedan and now it has revealed that it is planning to build a combined 7,00,000 units of a new hatchback and station wagon. This would amount to a total investment of $ 1 billion.

All three models are likely to use Fiat Chrysler's small US wide platform, which also underpins the Jeep Renegade and 500X small SUV.

In India, Fiat is likely to continue with the current models of the Linea and Punto for at least another three years. While the Linea might be replaced by the new sedan, there are rumours that the Punto could be replaced by a 4-door version of the 500.
