Reports in the media suggest, Tata Motors plans to launch the Nexon AMT by the end of FY 2017-18. Tata Motors' chief technology officer - Tim Leverton is reported to have revealed that an AMT version of the Nexon is already under development. However, whether this transmission will be paired with the diesel or petrol engine of the car has not yet been confirmed.

The Nexon is the company's first compact SUV. It is scheduled to be launched during the upcoming festive season. The Nexon will be offered with a choice of two engines - a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit developing 108 BHP and 170 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor that produces 108 BHP and 260 Nm of torque. Both engines will feature three driving modes- Eco, City and Sport and will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. The AMT that could be introduced later is likely to be a 6-speed unit as well.
