Rumour: Renault Kwid to get 1.0L petrol engine, AMT as well

Earlier this year, Renault unveiled the Kwid hatchback in India. The car will be launched later this year and is expected to be powered by an 800cc, 3-cylinder, petrol engine. This unit is likely to put out 57 BHP and is likely to come with two gearbox options - manual and automated manual transmission (AMT). The AMT will be developed in-house by Renault.

We had reported that a bigger petrol engine might be introduced as well. New media reports suggest that the Kwid will get a 1.0-litre petrol engine six to eight months after the launch of the car. This engine will be available with and AMT as well.

Renault plans to launch new variants of the Kwid regularly to try and keep customers interested in the car.

The Kwid will be Renault's entry-level car. It will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. The car will be the first Renault-Nissan Alliance model to use the company's Common Module Family - Affordable (CMF-A) platform.
