Maruti Suzuki rolls out 15 million cars

Maruti Suzuki has rolled out 15 million cars from its plants in India. The company has achieved this milestone in 31 years and 5 months. The first car was rolled out in December 1983. The 15 millionth car is a Dzire VDi sedan (chassis no. MA3FJEB1S00740865), rolled out from its Manesar facility.

Maruti is now aiming to cross the 20 million mark. Its medium term goal is to clock sales of 2 million vehicles per annum by 2020. The company claims that it is expanding its product portfolio, foraying into new segments and strengthening its sales and service network to achieve this target.

Here is a look at Maruti's total cumulative production over the years:

  • March 1994 - 1 million units
  • April 2005 - 5 million units
  • March 2011 - 10 million units
  • May 2015 - 15 million units

Here is a break-up of the cumulative production of some of the high-selling models that have been produced:

  • Alto (including K10) - 3.1 million units
  • 800 - 2.9 million units
  • Omni - 1.7 million units
  • Wagon R 1.6 - million units
  • Swift - 1.3 million units
