Mahindra upgrades the flagship XUV500 Crossover

Mahindra & Mahindra has been working on ironing out the numerous niggles that various XUV500 owners have been complaining about. According to AutocarIndia, all this work has resulted in the upgraded model of the XUV500. The upgraded version of the XUV500 comes with a host of changes; From the usage of sound deadening materials inside the cabin to better weld quality on the monocoque structure, to make for a more refined vehicle.

Here's a list of changes that the upgraded model of the XUV500 is said to feature,

  • Re-engineered braking system with improved brake pads
  • Re-calibrated ABS and brake booster
  • Improved clutch with new seals for better reliability and clutch feel
  • Closer spot welds on the monocoque structure to improve torsional stiffness
  • Improved suspension bushes for better ride quality
  • Usage of sound deadening material and better fit and finish for panels to eliminate squeaks and rattles

Notably, the XUV500 was recalled earlier this year to fix faulty parts such as the fluid hose, front power windows and left wiper. It remains to be seen if Mahindra would pro-actively recall the XUV500s already sold in India, in order to incorporate the slew of changes that the latest XUV500 models come with. The possibility of this happening seems unlikely given the fact that some items on the list of changes involve engineering changes that require modifications at the production line level.

The XUV500 is powered by a 2.2 liter mHawk turbo diesel engine that outputs 140 Bhp-330 Nm. This engine is mated to a six speed manual gearbox. The XUV500 can be specified in front wheel drive and all wheel drive variants. The SUV is the first monocoque product developed by Mahindra. Apart from selling the XUV500 in India, Mahindra exports its flagship product to many countries across the globe.
