Mahindra e2o costs 7.0 - 8.5 lakhs outside Delhi!

Mahindra launched the e2o in Delhi yesterday. The on-road Delhi price for the T0 base variant is 5.96 lakhs, while the top-end T2 variant retails at Rs. 6.24 lakhs. This price includes subsidies provided by the Delhi authorities. For technical details & full feature list, please click here to access our launch news article.

However, a pressing question is, what does the e2o cost OUTSIDE of Delhi, in cities where the electric car doesn't receive the same subsidy? Interestingly, Mahindra only provides Delhi pricing on its website. We had to manually procure rates from various e2o dealerships, and ended up quite shocked.

The Ahmedabad (GJ) on-road price varies between a whopping Rs. 8.0 - 8.5 lakhs. The Mumbai (MH) on-road price is comparatively lower, but prohibitive nevertheless: Rs. 7.05 - 7.40 lakhs (one Mumbai dealer claimed a higher Rs. 7.6 lakh price).  The Bangalore (KA) on-road price is identical to Mumbai.

With its <100 km driving range and 2-door layout, the e2o is already at a disadvantage to more conventional cars. The steep non-Delhi pricing is another deterrent; no more than a handful of customers would buy an e2o for Rs. 7.0 - 8.5 lakhs. That is significantly higher than diesel hatchbacks like the Figo, Beat and Swift. In fact, you could buy some entry-level sedans for the same money, or even Mahindra's own compact SUV, the Quanto!

The Gujarat dealer we spoke to claimed he has had zero bookings, a full 24 hours after launch.
