Harley-Davidson bikes being investigated for faulty brakes

Harley-Davidson motorcycles are currently under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The said investigation has been initiated after 43 complaints, three accidents and two injuries were reported due to brake failure on Harley-Davidson bikes. 4.3 lakh motorcycles manufactured between 2008 and 2011 are believed to have the braking issue.

Several complaints have been filed against the iconic American motorcycle manufacturer, stating that there is complete loss of braking power in ABS-equipped bikes, without any prior warning or indication. Harley-Davidson has argued that the sudden loss in braking could be the result of customers ignoring the 2-year brake fluid replacement schedule.

The company has officially commented that it is aware of the investigation, and will be cooperating with the authorities, whenever needed.

Interestingly, Harley-Davidson had recalled around 60,000 motorcycles in 2014 due to braking issues. The issue that time was related to sudden and unexpected engagement of brakes, without the rider's input.
