BMW M Performance Power Kits discontinued in India?

Thank you to BHPian akshay1234 for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

BMW owners both prospective and existing may be in for a little disappointment if they were looking to get the M Performance power kits. The performance kits add a few updates including an engine remap and some hardware changes. Each kit is designed individually, depending on the engine option chosen and the upgrade improves performance figures. For example, the M Performance power kit for the 320d increases its output from 181 bhp/380 Nm of torque to 197 bhp/400 Nm of torque, without affecting the emission figures (as stated on the BMW India official site).

BHPian akshay1234 installed the M Performance power kit on his BMW 320d around 2 years ago. He noticed tangible improvements in engine refinement and gearbox behaviour which made the car more fun to drive. Satisfied with the upgrade, he looked forward to adding the kit to his recently purchased BMW X3. However, when approached, the dealer seemed unaware of any such kit. After getting in touch with BMW India, he received a call from the dealer's parts manager.

The manager then stated that BMW India has stopped selling power kits & went on to say that he received a directive from the company asking him not to sell the kits. On contacting the BMW India helpline, it was discovered that the kits were discontinued altogether in India over "homologation issues".

Whether or not homologation was the true reason for shelving the M Performance power kits remains to be seen. However, while they weren't a major selling point for BMW, they certainly made a case for BMW's being labelled great driver-oriented cars. The question also arises, why is BMW India's website showcasing the M Performance power kits, if the company isn't offering them?
