Re: Jeep Willys

@Ram,
What Chanu has pointed out is just a minor fault which is rectifiable and not such a
major issue.His remark is only about an oversight in the restoration.
If you start finding faults then there are so many in most of the restored jeeps.
The Jeep in the lower picture is definitely not in India,so the fittings and the trailer
are not of the Indian specs Jeep.

  1. And not about the special windshield with electric wipers below the windshield. The Willys CJ-3Bs in India always had an engine vaccuum operated driver's wiper above the windshield and a manual autorickshaw type passenger side wiper again above the windshield.
  2. And not about, the free-wheeling hubs which were never there on the Willys CJ-3B.
  3. And not about, the non-conical parking lights which were never there on the Willys CJ-3B sold in India.
  4. And not about, the trailer which is much different from the one sold in India, made by Rubery-Owen. If you could see the hauling fitting, I am sure it would be the ball and socket, not the WWII pintle-hook that persisted in India for over four decades.
  5. And finally the paint is called "Olive-Drab", not "Grey".

Read the above line carefully Ram, it was just an observation not a criticism, by the by it is still not called a welding crease. I am not comparing the CJ3B of a fellow Bhpian to that of the CJ3B's abroad, I very well know what has come to India and on CJ3B and what you have mentioned is nothing new to me. It is clearly mentioned by me '' I guess the owner might have chosen to keep it this way'' so that says it all, rest I echo what Aulakh has rightly mentioned.

Last but not the least Ram it is still not called ''Olive drab'' google yourself to understand the color better.

Thank you very much Aulakh for understanding it in the right fashion.

I felt the same aulakh.

Hi Bala, could you clarify which jeep exactly were you referring to? Was it the Grey Indian version CJ 3B "BYJ 3732" posted by anjan?

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post3159927

As the US one in Olive Drab you posted in your post does have the stamped line on the bonnet side, above the willys name! Also you stated 'below pictures' but there is only 1 picture you posted below your er- above post! So I reckon you and ram were both referring to different jeeps (in his case the US one with trailer you posted, hence his mention of "Olive Drab" colour) and it resulted in some misunderstanding?

Jeep Willys

Dear All,

I picked up a Willys CJ3B (Progressively made by Mahindra) 1962 model. The engine is original Hurricane petrol, with 4WD. Posting the pictures

Nice Ride. Was this Jeep at a used car showroom in Vazhakkala? I have seen one there which looked same. Also has the original Hurricane engine and power steering installed.

Re: Jeep Willys

Hi all, I am hereby posting details about the development history and technical data about the Willys Jeep with help of an illustrative picture.
Jeep Willys-1656418_636396213086321_1041042864_n.jpg

Apart from the above visual details there are some more important facts associated to this vehicle; namely:

1) It is the only car in the world which is built by many other company other than jeep itself around the world without even actual licence.

2) It was actually GP (General Purpose) concept made by general motors and during the war it became so popular that Willy started calling jeep.

3) It is the most basic that a car can get.

4) Its was the first 4WD car.

5) It was the first road car that was made and used as a military purpose vehicle.

6) Willy Jeeps are great to restore.

7) It is so basic that the only electric equipment it had were head lights, tail lights and the starter motor. It's wipers were hand operated.

8) It was the developing bench mark for land cruiser and range rover.

9) It is the only car that has seen very little changes over the past 8 decades approximately.

Thanks

Re: Jeep Willys

One of the pictures from the Cent Ind Vintage Automotive Association, Nagpur, Republic Day display event 2014.

The link for post # 165 onwards for more of the CIVAA pictures:

This one posted below was sighted by me at New Delhi on 06/02/2014 - looks fairly original but has lots of mod jobs:

Jeep Willys-dscn1709.jpg

Jeep Willys-dscn1710.jpg

Jeep Willys-dscn1711.jpg

During its hey days (the Willys') when wildlife (incl. tiger) hunting was legal, the rear rack would be conveniently used by hunters to keep their beasts for the homeward journey. Now since hunting is banned and no wild animal can be thus kept there, the very fat stepney takes all the space!!

friends , hello! KPS, just informing all that I lost out narrowly on the first jeep that I actually liked seriously , and the winning numbers read as below :

TNE 3293(1975) - Rs 81,003 ;

TNE 5379(1976) - Rs 73,201 ;

TDE 3282(1981) - Rs 1,14,382 ;

&

TDC 1302(1982) - Rs 76,537

please add 15% tax to bill

( all jeeps work well ! )

are these not Value For Money proposition compared to most classified advertisements ?

I truly hope that Tbhpians alone corner most of the old stock of classics and vintages of all makes across the country!

will continue sharing any / all info that I stumble across about auctions etc! may the best man win!
