Hi buddy,
You'll find the chassis number near the driver seat. Open the driver side doo, on the footboard on the frame below the door, there's a black removable panel. Just see the picture below. The exact position is marked in red. Just remove the panel and you'll find the chassis number inscribed beneath that.

Guys:

I have the same question as @aavi. I have booked Indica Vista Safire.

I am able to decode the chassis number, but not the engine no. Can you help me decode the engine number? It's 310A6600 - 0702605.

Chassis is manufactured in Jan 2009.

Chetan sir,
Thank you very much.
My friend managed to find it by the time i posted my query.
There is a small flat plate like thing where the chassis number is supposed to be as per your pic.
But that was blank.
The chassis number was found near that ledge on the same side but on the floor and below the carpet.
That's what he said iirc.

EPZ - Month and year of production. E for Month and PZ means Year.

chassis number doubt on ikon

My friend had bought an used 2003 ford ikon diesel, i had a look at the car before buying, the chassis number embossesd in body underneath the wiper motor in almost all cars is not there, instead , only the name plate near bonnet lock of Ford india which consisted only of chassis number is present(no engine number) ,i had a doubt and asked ford dealer in coimbatore trough phone, they said the chassis number is embossed in down part, which is not visible. That too from 2003.

Also oil is splatting when i take the dip stick out while running, it had done only 65000 kms, i suspect rewinding of meter, and one mechanic saying its normal , to splatter oil when raising the engine.

But my lancer which clocked lakhs of kms not spitting any oil from dip stick even when i press pedal fully.

The best part is the ikon have been owned by ford dealer for almost an year from 2003,

if engine oil is been splatted when you take out the dip stick then the engine needs an overhaul and the car sure has done more than 65k

Decoding Hyundai VIN/ Chasis numbers

Here is a PDF (attached) I found while trying to decode my Getz CRDi's VIN (this doc is from 2000, so not all details for the Getz are there in it). The VIN number is 17 characters long, the last 6 digits being the car's serial number. The first 11 have a meaning. This is how the first 11 characters of my car's VIN gets decoded as:

M- India (Geo)
A- HMI (Manufacturer)
L- (Vehicle Type)
B- (Series)
T- (Body Style and Version)
5- Sedan 5DR (Body Type)
1- Both Sides A/Belt | Class B (Restraint System, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
V- 1.5 TCI (Engine Type)
R- RHD (Drive Side)
9- 2009 (Model Year)
M- Chennai (Plant of Product)

WZ - 2003
VZ - 2004
UZ - 2005
TZ - 2006
SZ - 2007
RZ - 2008

So your car is manufactured in JUNE 2008.

Happy Motoring

I am about to buy the 1.6 palio and I require help in deciphering the Chassis number, mainly I am trying to obain the month and year of manufacture. I request all the experts here to provide your assistance

chassis no : 8073174FPZ
Engine no : 8660651

From the above table, I could infer that the above provided Chassis number depicts JUNE month for F out of FPZ series, but the chassis number above contains P that I am not able to map it to the right year(as per the table ideally 2009 should be mapped to Q)

Please help

Thanks in advance
Siva

Though I cant decipher FIAT's YYMM codes, let me suggest a workaround that MIGHT work: try reading the date of manufacture from any seatbelt's label.

Maybe they skipped Q and went to P. or maybe your car was intended to be manufactured next year

I thought R mapped to year 2008 and Q to 2009 Can you please clarify how 2009 is represented by P ?

Today I had a chance again to have a look at my prospective car and I checked the seat belt label as per the above advise and got hold of some more confusing information. The mfg date of the vehicle reads as Mar 2009 on the seat belt label !!!

Guys, I really need your help in arriving upon the exact mfg date. Please pool in your thoughts ASAP as I need to provide confirmation/token amount to the dealers quickly !!!

Now Decode Ford Vin Nos.

Made an interesting and useful discovery while looking for a vin decoder for my Fiesta.
This one actually works. Use the table on this website, alongwith the built in decoder to get an idea of which year.
