Yes, pouring/splashing water into the open engine bay can lead to such issues. Hydrolocking by accident may occur as a result. However the bay has a rain guard (first picture). So splashing water with the bonnet closed does not lead to water going inside the bay.

What is the purpose of the charcoal box? I am sorry, I have never come across such a device. Is it to clean up the exhaust gas?

A charcoal canister stores the petrol vapour from the tank when the petrol vaporizes inside the tank on temperature changes. It uses activated charcoal to absorb the vapors & effectively storing them. After the engine has started, the vapors are fed back to the intake manifold. This device is present on all cars which don't have vented fuel filler caps.

This goes bad when people try to overfill fuel. Some of the liquid petrol gets into the canister rendering it completely useless. It is one of the causes of "petrol smell inside car"

JC... is this the system on all cars. I've had petrol smell inside the car when I try topping up. Normally stick to the Auto cut-off, but on the rare occasion of getting cheaper fuel would try topping it up .

That's normal. I get it too when refilling. There is difference in location of vapor hose in different cars. One should not try to fill as much as to be able to see the petrol from the filler hole.

DIY: Adding An Additional Brake Light for Ford IKON Flair!

Tool Required: A sharp knife, pliers, Good quality Insulation tape

Raw Materials: A complete set of M800 Tail lamp bulb holders and wiring kit. 2 single filament bulbs to fit in those holders.

Total cost: 60 Rs for the kit, and 20 Rs for bulbs = 80 bucks.




Step 1: Refer Post #51 for steps for accessing the tail lamp cluster.

Step 2: Peel of the protection. And then you can access the additional slot for the holder in the cluster.





Step 3: Identify the brake light wiring and splice the wires carefully. In a ’07 Ford IKON Flair, the brake light wires are the purple/brown ones. Shown in figure. While splicing the wires, make sure that you splice both +ve and –ve at some distance, so that there is no chance for them to short ciruit.





Step 4: Detach two single bulb holders from the 800 tail light wiring kit





Step 5: Connect the holders appropriately. Ie, black wire from the holder to the black wiring in car, and the other.

Step 6: Insulate the wiring. Please make sure you do a good job in Insulating so that you avoid short circuits.





Step 7: Replace the holders and bulbs in their position. Again, refer Post # 51 for instructions regarding that.

hey, that's a neat trick!! extra lights at very minimal cost.

why does the Ikon tail lamp cluster have that extra slot? is it used as a spacer?

Nice job Dhanush. While I did, I have peeled off little more of the standard wiring, where I could get access to the actual joints made for this bulb holder patch harness. From there I had soldered the wires from the new holder.
The 800 bulb holders are a direct fit. For using a holder from a Tata family vehicle, you will have to remove the 3rd locating notch in the holder.
I am not sure if the 3rd lamp was reserved for any high end models when Ford launched Ikon in India.

I would like to correct something in the pic posted. In the picture the part marked as brake booster is actually THE WIPER MACHINE of the car and not brake booster.

That I dont exactly know. May be the IKON a.k.a Fiesta mk5 sold outside, had rear Fog lamps in them.

Yes, the 800 holders I used are perfect fit. They even have a rubber washer around them to prevent misting. and.. THANKS for the tip. I appreciate it!

The rear fog lamps were OE in Ikon 1.6 SXi May be they did not put it in the Flair / lower trims.

1100D's Ikon came with OE rear fog lamps.

yes - i am sure there is a separate switch for the rear fog lamps. Infact if you recollect earlier ikons came with reverse light on one side / the other side had a fade cover on the empty slot.

In the mean time i will point this thread to him. a small correction - his ikon is a NXT(zxi) version and not the SXi.

hmm.. Do you have any idea where this switch is placed? The reason I'm asking is that, I'm looking for a proper OE switch and placement to trigger the boot-opener actuator. The original switch for boot-opener from Ford costs ~800 bucks, which is very costly, considering its only a switch. Aftermarket switches are very cheap (10rs) but look terribly out of place.
