@Ampere: Are you sure these are in the 1.5K range? Club Mahindra in Munnar, for example?

re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

Hey guys,
Planning to drive down to Pune from Chennai in the next few weeks on a Thursday evening. Want to start from Chennai around 4PM and stop some place near Bangalore for the night. Would it be a good idea to stop somewhere near Tumkur?
If yes, please suggest a budget hotel for the night. It's just me and my brother.
If you think we can stop some place else, please do let me know otherwise.

Thanks,
Varun

With a 4pm start from Chennai, you should be reaching Tumkur by about 10pm.Naveen Regency is the only good place in Tumkur. Its on the highway itself.http://naveenregency.com/

If you can stretch for another 120kms,then you can stay the night at Naveen,Chitradurga. Both are just average places.nothing great to write about it.Dont expect an early breakfast either,as things warm up only by about 730-8 in the morning!

Since you're heading towards Tumkur, I'd suggest this route to bypass Bangalore city traffic:
From Chennai, take the Vellore-Krishnagiri-Hosur route instead of Old Madras Road route (Via Ranipet-Chittoor).
After Hosur, once you pay the toll at Attibele, proceed straight and Do not take the elevated toll road, just after the elevated toll junction stay on left and take NICE Road, pay the toll and exit at Tumkur Road. This way you need not negotiate too much of Bangalore traffic as you would on the Old Madras road route.

Thanks Ranjit! As you pointed out, if I can stretch it a little more, i'll target Chitradurga, else it'll be Tumkur.

NPV, that was eventually going to be my next question on how to Bypass bangalore. Thanks for clarifying that makes it much easier now to plan the route.

www.dvrmansion.com at Kurnool is a very good option for people looking to stopover during their drives.

re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

My cousin from London is going to start her internship in Bannerghata National Park. So she's coming down to Bangalore tomorrow and looking for a service apartment or any place with kitchenette for 10 days. Can you guys let me know if you know of any service apartments closer to Bannerghatta National Park, preferably around IIM or Arekere (just so that she could take the Volvo straight to the park). Budget is about 2-2.5K a day!

You can try Padmini Palace http://www.hotelpadminipalace.com/tariff.htm though not a lake facing one.October onwards is peak season in Udaipur so expect sky high tariffs
