I wonder what all our Gurus would value this car at, I would say around 10L, but minimum 8L. And that may not cover cost of restoration.
Lovely. harit

Radio seems to be blanked out, number plate should not be American for a RHD car. Just nitpicking unnecessarily. But the car is very nice!
Beetles still have not got into that 10L price tag category harit

And that too a post 1970 car is sure not a contender. The above car would have been brought at around 3 lacs, and done up in good taste, not all that original.

1600's and 1302's (super beetle's) are available in plenty, you just need to search them.

A good stock original 1300 or a 1500 or a convertible is worth something beyond 7L price tag

There are couple of 1300 and a convertible that i know can demand high price in Bangy, and the owner is not even thinking of selling it.

Ahem, do shop around in Bangy about this car and you will learn something. Why are we on this forum, not only to give our opinions which sometimes no one asked for,, but also to learn. And learn we will from this post.
You can see the quality, and quality does not come cheap! Recently in Mumbai a convertible bug was sold, and I arranged for some parts from Germany. They do not come cheap. Now you have to decide, how much you want to spend. For eaxmple, you can make the side trims over here, the workmanship will be good but these trims will still be replica. But when you import many parts from out, both cosmetic and mechanical, costs will go up. So if you were to buy a super bug for 3L, import important parts, you will spend at least 5L. Then painting, labour and finally some profit. A guy with some bucks can buy in this a readymade car and not bother for anything. Why would anyone buy the new Fiat 500 at 16L? To have something different which this car is.
I now know who owns this car after a phonecall made this morning though I do not know him personally and I have no interest in this car. And this is not a reply to counter Pawan, just a different point of view.

Happy bugging. harit

This is a 1303 - Super Beetles from late 1972 (although 1973 is the considered model year) till 1976 (for hard tops; cabrios continued till 1979 if I'm not mistaken). And the engine range included a 1.2 (in the plain vanilla 1303A, not commonly known about though), 1.3 and 1.6.

I know many Beetles in India with the 1500cc engine, so I don't understand what all the fuss about it is or the 1300 for that matter, which are dime a dozen as well. As far as I'm concerned, the engine size doesn't matter - 1.1,1.2,1.3,1.5 or 1.6 (there were bored out bigger ones also that one could buy from specialist engine shops, and I've seen them in few Beetles in India as well). As long as it's in good nick and true to original specs it excites me. However, it's the unrestored/superficially spruced up but original condition well-maintained Bugs that take the crown in my book. Very difficult to get those here, as much as the cabrios I'd say. Just my two bits.

We can be quite sure whitewalls were offerd on VWs in the day - and on practically every American and many European cars of the time. Here is a French (?) brochure scan from 64. Whether broad whitewalls were offered on a Superbeetle, Im not sure. Perhaps thinner ones were available.

Harit - as long as we are nitpicking, do I see bubbles on the engine compartment? And it would have been nice to have matching mudflaps front and rear. But in all seriousness, that is an outstanding car.

Coming from you, the owner will be mighty thrilled to get that compliment " If she were pre - 1960 , she could be an entry in the next cartier event 2010 ".
Like you rightly point out with your nitpicking, constructive criticism is always welcome. Radio space is blanked out because it is missing the original Radio, the owner is on the look out for one. Guess the Number plate was added novelty, known/unknown to the owner.

Your guess on the right price for the car ( the car is for sale, but I am not quoting the price he wants, to avoid another unnecessary debate by other members ) just goes to prove again and again, that a man with your experience, can never get it wrong. Hey !!! it does not mean that the owner wants 8/10 lakhs .

Hey its a great looking car. How many of us who talk about whats wrong actually have cars without small nicks? So guys appreciate the way the car has been kept. Very easy to find flaws in someone else's workmanship. In my book Fantastic.

Opinions to each his own sir, though you might say your reply was not countering mine, but the reply says all.

I know who owns this beautiful car, i am not debating, i meant there are better ones in Bangy those that are unrestored and stock.

Some guys like me care a damn for Cosmetics, unless stock.

No problem Harit, I'll take the Karmann off your hands.

Not only did the MZV car come to Bombay, it came to a Pune event as well, (just after the Bombay event I think). I met the owner, a Mr. Deodhar I think. Very helpful gent.

Any idea what price that might go for?
Pavan they never made a 1300 in 1964, they were 1100 and 1200s, 1300 was introduced in 1966!

Just to add some further comments to the value of this Beetle. In India we basically have no stock of cars available, so where once upon a time cars were cheaper in India than abroad, now it is the otherway round.
When an average cars is being restored abroad, one has to be very careful about how much money goes into the car. There is always a danger that the restoration cost will exceed the value at which one can sell. Just nw I have seen an ad in a German magazine for a 1938 Mercedes 170 V sedan. It said 80 K DM (approx 40K euro) spent on restoration 9 years ago, asking 28K euro. Many similar ads appear. One always has to be careful and not go overboard.
Some may have enquired about the expected price of this bug, well I hope he recovers his cost. But till date I have not heard of a beetle selling at that price. To buy this car you have to have passion and want a car which should be trouble free for many many years.
Good luck to whoever buys it, he will have happy motoring for a long time.

Cheers harit

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this car?

MTJ 410 is a 74 (?) Super Beetle bought in 78 by a Parsi family. They sold it a couple of years ago, I believe out of Pune now. It was the best preserved VW I have seen till date - totally unrestored, hardly ever seen rain, original uncracked interiors - the works. The only deviations I remember were the wheels and tyres and a digital tacho inside.
