Escorts Rx100

I'm very much aware of the Yamaha RX100, I was in an impression that RX100 came to India under Yamaha Badge. But last weekend I spotted a Escorts RX100 still with the original paint in stock condition. The only difference it had from RX100 is its Tank Badge and the speedo meter console got Rajdoot written.

I have seen RX100s with Escorts or Yamaha written but this ESCORTS RX100 got Rajdoot written on the speedo meter console and Escorts badge on the tank.

Now let me see how many of you guys are having this rarest RX100 and how many are known to be surviving.

This is news.I have never seen a RX 100 with Escorts on the tank and Rajdoot on Speedo.
My RX 100 has Yamaha and Escorts and , but in the rear the mud flap extension has Escorts on it.

The Yamaha badge has been removed and fitted with the Escorts badge in the pic. Original RX100 came only with the Yamaha badge on the side of the petrol tanks but some of them did have the Rajdoot embossing on the speedometer. The rear mudflaps too came with both the Escorts logo as well as Yamaha.

Guys, This bike was not repainted. I'm 100% sure that the tank got its original paint. I myself verified. Also the old Escorts Rajoot dealer in Vellor confirmed it to be original Escorts RX100 (1986)

Also try find out if any other two wheeler or even four wheeler got such Escorts monogram on it. I doubt if anyone can find. This monogram was made on the same line as the Yamaha by Rajdoot before the Yamaha RX100 was made.

Some time in the eighties, when the RX 100 was selling like hot cakes, the mandarins at Escorts decided to badge them as Escorts 100 instead of Yamaha, confident they can sneak in the Escorts and Rajdoot names without affecting sales. There was even a full page ad in the papers, announcing the change. But to their utter shock, the sales immediately dried up. YES, literally dried up!

They hurriedly brought back the Yamaha badge and all was well in a few months again. This piece must be from that lot. May be it is a collectible item now!

Excellent info. I saved my claim.

Now, is there anyone else who got this bike ? I think the one i have seen is one living example for ESCORTS RX100

Not true. The only two stroker to come with 14 bhp was the 110 cc Suzuki Shogun. It was a very thirsty bike, but fun to drive.

Not only Shogun the later versions of RX 135 5 speed & RXZ 5 speed were also 14 BHP.
Seen RX125 (actual 125 cc and 5 speed RX not just stikers or badge) but never this model.

When I was in 5th standard, my Dad bought our first bike Rajdoot with a "7" like key pushed into its headlight cover (hahaha). The OTR was Rs.11,800/-. At that time the most sold bikes from that showroom (I forgot the name) in kaloor, Kochi was RD350 and Escorts Yamaha RX100.
Cheers!

Very very fun to drive with that roaring sound. But not that thirsty. When drive at 45-50 kmph I was getting 45/l, but in full throttle above 100 kmph then millage was between 28-33/l.

I really miss my black beauty beast!

Gansan might be right, but somehow the ESCORTS badge looks too familiar. I think some models of the Rajdoot 175 came with this badge. It could just be a case of a badge swap.

Siva, what does the owner claim? Did he get it like this from the showroom?

Even I have heard similar stories about the 86 batch having a better set of barrels but not 14 bhp. I had heard that the ports were larger and material of the liners and pistons (ART) were far more superior. Infact, we had a motorcycle Rally in Bangalore ~15 years ago wherein the participating bikes had to have barrels manufactured after 87. After the pre-rally scrutiny, a sticker saying 'Fair Competition' was stuck on the Yamahas.

OT: After Shogun was launched, it did very well in the rally scene especially because of Factory backing. The Shogun engine\gearbox was based on a limited edition Suzuki Supra SS that was homologated but released only to rallyists. The Shogun used to be called 'The Boss' (remember that ad??). We were a bunch of die hard Yamaha fans and wanted Yamaha to regain its lost glory and there was nothing from Yamaha India. So my mechanic 'Zak' modified a RX barrel and head to run Shogun piston. This bike was called 'The Boss Beater' and thats what it did. It would eat up Shoguns in every rally and that barrel kit lasted almost 50k km of rally and daily use. Soon all of us had 110cc Yamahas and were doing wheelies in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear on the drop of a coin. Those were the days....those good old two-stroke days. Still a Yamaha fan, though I don't hate Suzukis that much today.

Are you sure, your black beauty was not a Samurai? Just Kidding mate, haven't heard of those mileage figures before. Was yours with the Catalytic convertor or without?

Yeah Santhosh, The owner got the bike from show room like this, that is what he claimed. However it was endorsed by a ex-showroom owner and service personal turned new garage owner in Vellore. So, it is authentic ESCORTS RX100
