Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

Yamaha Motor India has released an image teasing an upcoming naked motorcycle, which will likely be called the FZ 250. This will be Yamaha's first offering in the 250 cc segment in India. The bike is expected to be unveiled on January 24, 2017.

The teaser image showcases the front-end of the upcoming bike, which gets a sleek headlamp cluster that houses a U-shaped DRL. Other details revealed from the image include telescopic forks at the front and beefy fuel tank extensions.

The bike is expected to be powered by a 250 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that will likely churn out around 20 BHP and 20 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike is expected to get a monoshock at the rear, dual disc brakes, optional ABS, a fully-digital instrument cluster and automatic headlamp on (AHO) feature.

The Brazilian Yamaha Fazer 250 has been expected by auto journalists since donkey years.

From 2006 to be precise.

At last it is here in India (the engine and mechanicals in new clothes)

Going by the specs, the engine should be very similar to FZ16 in character; low to mid range. Since this will be facing Dominar head on, hope they justify the price tag.

re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

The predicted power figure from the article is disappointing. My P220 pushes out 21HP from its 220 CC mill, this Yamaha should perform better. A power figure somewhere between 27-30HP would be great.

The main competition for this bike would be Duke 200 (25HP, 1.48L Ex-showroom), Dominar 400 (34.5HP, 1.44L Ex-showroom), Benelli TNT25 (28HP, 1.8L Ex-showroom) & Mojo (26.5HP, 1.8L Ex-showroom).

Pricing it anywhere above 1.8L would simply kill the product. Of all these bikes, Dominar 400 is going to be the strongest competition. Yamaha has got to price it below Dominar 400. I would expect the Ex-showroom price to be around 1.3L. Eagerly waiting to see how much Yamaha prices it for and the tech specs.

I would love to see this mill in Fazer too, with upgrades like projector lamps, read disc, better console. It would be so perfect for touring.

I am guessing this to be the MT 03 designed for Indian Markets. Let's just hope this motorcycle rides on better tyres than the R3. Also, being a Yamaha, I doubt it will be priced anything below INR 2 Lakhs. Glad to see this low-performance competition heating up. Good times for Indian motorcycling enthusiasts.

Haha, if the alleged power figures and prices are true, this will be dead on arrival. No matter how good the quality of bike will be, the Dominar has set the bar too high in terms of price, features and power.

Unless, the power figures and prices are not equal or less than Duke 200 (which will be the main competitor), this bike will FAIL.

re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

I highly doubt that Yamaha with their quality & premium baggage can play the price card here. Yamaha has never dominated the segment with BHP figures be it 150cc FZ or the 300cc segment with the R3. Even the 150cc R15 (An engineering marvel) is priced closed to the 200cc & 400cc bikes.
Similar case is with Kawasaki, the Z250 (twin cylinder) is priced way above it's competitions.

For the above specs, a 250cc to produce 30 hp would require the engine to run on a high compression ratio and liquid cooling cant be ignored. Both of which would increase the price of the vehicle. Since it is a Yamaha, it has to be priced above the competition. My take is, Yamaha is concentrating more on a relaxed character engine unlike frantic power delivery of KTM's.

That's harsh judgement sir.

I respect your opinion on the comparison with KTM, but even when KTM's were launched the other bikes didn't fail.

With that logic the R15 should have failed too which is priced higher than the extremely VFM product, the Pulsar NS 200, but for the enthusiasts and the people who understand the quality and variety aspect did buy the R15. Even with the limited numbers the R15 is not a failure although it is priced higher than other 150cc bikes.

In India we now have a market segment for every one, and that's the beauty of it that we are spoilt for choices rather than just having monopolistic bikes. With this kind of competition the product thrives and the customer is benefited too.

For what I can see is that we as customers are getting more and more choices and more and more food for the thought process in choosing what suits our personality and riding style.

re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

Deciding the failure or success on paper specs is too hurried. Let's wait and see the bike in flesh first.

A naked 250 in reasonable range is a welcome entrant. Not all are fans of KTMs and Bajaj. A yamaha can claim premium based on brand and quality, and needn't compete on price with Bajaj.

re: Yamaha teases new naked motorcycle. EDIT: FZ25 launched at Rs. 1.20 lakh

I sincerely hope, that after making riders wait for over 7 years, Yamaha doesn't launch an air-cooled 250. A naked bike with R3's mill at 2L will be an awsome preposition.

Aren't there any 250's by Yamaha outside India which they can launch here? Yes, the Indonesian Fazer is there but it is too long in the tooth now.

Please pour in if any of you have any news, I am in the market for one and waiting for this, the G310R and new D-390. Just that the wait is killing.

Or will it be the MT-03?

If you are looking for performance then nothing beats the 390 even in the coming time. Saw the new D 390 testing on the old pune highway, looks futuristic! Yamaha & BMW are to be looked only if reliability, exclusivity & comfort(?) are in the checklist. I wish honda updated the CBR 250R .

Here are a few spy shots of the bike that is expected to launch on the 24th.

Looks like an air cooled bike or at most, an oil cooled bike.

With all due respect sir, we also need to remember that Indians have a fascination for fully faired bikes, which are also affectionately called "Dhoom" bikes. This IMO is a big contributing factor to the R15's sales and success in India.
I'm not at all disagreeing on the fact that the R15 is built for a different purpose than the others, or that Yamaha has good quality of parts and service, which also contributes to their sales, but pointing out something which the Pulsar NS 200 & Duke 200 don't have.

I see only a single pipe coming out of that block, which indicates to me that it is a big single cylinder. This isn't the same as the Yamaha MT-25 or MT-03, as they both have dual pipes coming out of the engine block.
