Re: Next Gen Bajaj Pulsars - SS400 & CS400 (rechristened as Dominar)

Wow! Amazing pricing. But not a single customer who wants to buy duke 390 is going to sway for it.

Bajaj, why so heavy!? 182kg!! Look at the performance. It is at the CBR250R's ball park. Quite disappointed about the performance.
What is with Bajaj and stupid taglines? "Leave track racing to amateurs" for RS200 and now " Dominate the night" for Dominar 400.

But yeah, RIP Royal Enfield, Mojo and CBR250R!

Mouthwatering proposition at that price point. Any idea on the suspension travel? Engine seems torquey and peak power @8k sounds relaxed. I am tempted to exchange my 390 for this one for the daily commute, mainly for comfort factor. Waiting to test ride. Good show bajaj.

Thank you MunnabhaiMBBS for sharing the details here.

It is not a 'VERY BAD" pricing, until the KTM is brought into the picture. On the flip side, bikes like Honda CBR250 and KTM 200 may get some cross shopping.

It has the exact engine as the KTM 390, but is down on power by ~9 bhp, and is ~20 kgs heavier, has pretty much the same fuel range.

So Mr Bajaj, is this the 'D' you were referring to???

Triple spark? I expected Bajaj to put 5 spark plugs since the 200 already had 3. I'm very disappointed with Bajaj

Is the engine SOHC like the 200 or still a DOHC?

How can you be disappointed without even taking it for a short spin?

And regarding the detuning, Bajaj has to sell the 390 alongside this. If the Dominar was to make the same power while being comfortable, it would eat into the market of the KTM from which the engine is derived. Those who still wants the furious 390 would still go for it while someone wants a comfortable milemuncher with lower down torque can go for the Dominar.

.
Because I ride a 26bhp bike (CBR250R) with almost same specs(0-100 & top speed). My 200NS had a 23bhp engine and did 0-100 in a time that was just a second more than Dominar 400, and had an almost equal top speed.

If bajaj was able to tune its 200cc so well, why do this to a 400? Agreed, the ktm sales will get hit. I was contemplating between the ktm 390 and Dominar 400. Bajaj has blown me away with the pricing, but I am very sure it will be a lot less interesting than the Duke 390, which IMO is just adequately powered.

Better to wait for 2017 Duke 390 to be released, probably will have a few reviews of Dominar 400 by that time. Any idea when test rides would start?

The duke has a ground clearance of around 175 mm iirc. This one has around 20 mm less. In my opinion, this could have been achieved by either lowering the pegs about an inch or reducing the suspension travel

Really hope it's the former. Makes a huge difference when it comes to everyday comfort

Add to that, puny 13 liter tank; if the FE were 27 Kmpl (not ARAI), the range is a safe 256 Km (considering 3.5 liters of reserve). So long distance commute (unlike Mojo) is once again short-lived. And a missing additional second headlight which are absolute necessary for long distance rides.

Exactly! And the extra weight!! It becomes 200+ kg with a full tank of fuel and luggage(saddle bag & tank bag). I hope bajaj comes up with custom accessories like windshield/visor, else the wind blast is also going to be a problem during tours.
