re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

Thanks guys, appreciate the response. Looks like DIY is probably the cheapest way out. Although a bit taxing what with roaming here and there asking around for the stuff to be salvaged.

We measured the diameter of the tubes used for Polo's current head restraints and they seem to be 14 mm dia. And chrome plated.

We have 13 mm and 15 mm both, which were previously used for the ships here and there are plenty of them lying around in the warehouse catching dirt. We asked a piping engineer to help me out and he's agreed to do the cutting, bending to the required shape - we have some bending machines lying idle here. Will make a rough CAD sketch and hand it out to him on Monday afternoon.

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

Headrest replacement is a little far-off goal for me (if at all), I have much more pressing issue on my Polo, and I need help :

I was trying to see how effective is the rear seat folding function and when I folded the backrest, it did not fold down fully due to headrests. So I removed the headrests. Now, forget the rear seat folding function, I can't put the headrests back! Both the slots have the lock, but only one slot has the push/release button and it only operates one lock. Hence only 1 rod goes it, the other gets stuck . Astonished, I went back to the Laura and checked and I see that Laura employes only 1 lock and that slot has the push/release button. The other slot does not have the button, but then it does not have the lock either. So simple. Why did they mess this up in the Polo?

I was looking around and I bumped into this:
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34784

Hmmm...before I embark on this, I am hoping there will be an easy and official way. Can someone help? BTW, the owner manual is useless. It shows the pictures of rear headrests that match what's in the Laura (and may be what @Gannu is looking for - those low seating headrests and with only one lock!).

Help help help...I am driving around with rear headrests removed!

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

OK, done. It was really a stupid problem - the backrest has to be tilted forward to insert the headrest! I have captured a small video - just in case. Now I am wondering why the other forums did not mention this.

But one thing is sure - the Indian user manual is useless in this regard.

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

Hi Gannu,
Just bumped into this thread looking for the inverted-L head restraints for rear passengers. Do you have any updates for us?
It appears that the 2014 Polo comes with these, albeit in beige color. This should be a direct swap if you can source it at a reasonable cost.
Here is a link to the Image from Carwale review.
Cheers,
D.

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

Hey,

I was waiting for a long time for any updates on this thread for the Inverted L shaped Head rests especially since the new Polo 1.5 does have an inverted head rest.

I think this could be the solution to the problem, but need confirmation on the changeability with the older polo models. Can some BHPians kindly confirm along with the part number if possible?

Cheers,
Rahul

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

I had asked the service advisor to give me a quote of the inverted L-type headrest available on the new Polo. He says Rs. 1100 per piece. A bit expensive IMO. I wish it was Rs. 1100 a pair.

I need to check if the centre-to-centre distance between the rods are the same and the grooves on the rods are on the same side. This will greatly help improve the visibility through the IRVM.

The irony - the facelifted Vento gets the older head rests!

I just got my new polo delivered! Will check the measurements and post it here. It looks the same from a distance

Update:

Went to the service center today and took out a headrest from their test drive Polo and checked if it fits on mine. It does without issues!

Have placed an order for a pair. Will get them reupholstered later. Makes a lot of difference in the visibility through the IRVM.

Could you please share details from where you have ordered the headrest?

Thanks!

re: VW Polo (2010 - 2013) : Rear head-restraint replacement

Gannu, I had asked someone to check if rear headrest of new polo can fit to old one. But person said that he tried but rear headrest wont come out (not removable).

Also, when I checked with local VW service center, they said we don't stock spare headrest as this part hardly gets damaged.

Yep, there's a small catch! In order to remove the headrest from the slot, you need to insert the key (or a flat tip screw driver) into the flat slot on the side opposite to the one which you would press to release the headrest.

Ford Fiesta Classic has the same type at the rear seat. Not sure if the gap between 2 rods are around that though. As others suggested, try Xylo's or some liner can help you with it as I have seen such headrests incorporated in Tempo Travellor seats too. You can get the cake, frame all sep from wholesale upholsters items dealers.
