Very good habit, I also follow the same if I am not switching off the engine. And whenever I switch off engine, I take off the key with me. Only time I keep it inside the car is when I leave it for servicing, but I also roll down driver window at that time.

Whenever I leave for long drive/vacation, I keep spare key in wife's purse & ensure that her purse is never kept inside the car while stepping out of car.

This is the first time in 17 yrs I had dialed the RSA helpline. So I definitely wouldn't term this as a deal breaker. But yes, I was frustrated on not being able to reach them for sometime and when connected, the experience was good and help reached me quicker then expected considering that I was 30kms away from the main city.

Not really! The windshield is laminated and hence shatter proof. But the window glass aren't, they are the regular tempered glass which will definitely shatter into small pieces. The design is such a way they shatter into small pieces so that they don't injure the occupants.

Well, that too I'm not sure as it had not happened before like how I managed to get locked out.
I do consider that as a blessing in disguise since we were able to push the car safely to the corner, else it would have caused a lot of inconvenience to fellow motorists exiting the pump.

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

The odo has now crossed the 90k mark courtesy the Independence day weekend drive to Vagamon followed by a home run last weekend. The odo now stands at 90,300.

Some random shots taken at Vagamon:

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

The odo has crossed the 91k mark. Off late the usage has gone down, thanks to the prevailing situation in Bangalore for TN vehicles :(
Last week was in Coimbatore and hence left it at Marvel Erode for some long pending works. Since the last 20k kms I have been facing a peculiar oil reduction issue. Though there has been no visible leaks, I did check on this with both True Sai and Marvel and they both checked for visible leaks and said things were just fine.

Obviously I had to take that answer since the power and FE have always been good. But then this reduction was constantly lingering in my mind and was irritating. I measured it carefully and the reduction was about 400-450 ml at about 4000kms. Next discussion with FASS and my mech suggested me to switch back to Selena as they were wary of Delvac1. So I did switch back to Selena after the timing chain change at 80 and then the same continued.

So last week since I had to work from home from CBE, thought it was the best time to leave the car at FASS so that they get ample time to diagnose. I suggested to check the inter-cooler for any oil inside and if so then check the turbo. They did check the inter-cooler and there were no oil traces, turbo was also fine. They then decided to clean the intake manifold, EGR valve and also the exhaust.

When these were all opened up, the soot was found to be within tolerance in all the above except the EGR which was badly blocked and clogged. The technician added that he has not seen such badly clogged EGR! The EGR was cleaned once around 30k mark at CAI during the oil cooler replacement, but then not sure if it was done properly? Had no clue. So they did the cleaning and did a TD and said that there is remarkable difference in the pickup and whatever smoke was there on 2nd gear full out acceleration was also gone and requested me to drive now with the OE air-filter instead of the KN and share my views.

They also added that such badly clogged EGR would have led to oil burning. So took delivery and yes I did find the car quicker in gears 1&2 and also felt it being more relaxed. I did see the pics of the EGR from the mech and it was a little bad. So will have to monitor on the oil levels for the next 5000 kms at least to ascertain on whether the issue is resolved or not.

Additionally got the power-steering oil and brake fluid changed and also got the wheels balanced and aligned. I felt the rear wheels wearing out unevenly and hence specifically requested them to check on the alignment and suspension and the feedback was that all was well. The tyres have anyway done 49k kms and will be changing them in a couple of weeks time.

Overall extremely satisfied and happy with the service rendered by Marvel and I don't mind driving down 100 kms to get the work done from them

Linea has been spending quite time in the parking on weekdays and sort of making up over the weekends

The Odo is little over 93,400 kms. Got the tyres changed last week. The yoko earth1's have done about 49,800kms and since one of the tyres had uneven wear and was badly worn I decided to change. Else the treads in the other 3 "looked" good for another 3 to 5k kms.

Now was the dilemma on what tyres to buy. Budget was a big factor this time. I couldn't stretch beyond 4-4.2k for a tyre. This figure was in mind since I got the Apollo alnac4g for 4200 (195/55/15) but little did I know that the price diff for 195/55 and 195/65 was so much. Same alnac4g in 65 people was >5k.

Then was plan b. Couldn't source nexen like I did for the Palio's earlier. So started looking for Ep Accelera. The accelera phi again I was unable to source (comes in 60 profile and not in 65). The accelera alpha was available and well within my budget, but the alpha's have a reputation of being miserable in wet condition and hence ruled them out.

Kenda was next as I know quite few using them in punto and linea's. But my cousin gave me a contact who is the distributor for Accelera and UltraMile. My cousin had installed UM555 in his Logan recently and was happy with them. But he had hardly run a few thousand kilometers only.

Looked up into Google and there was hardly any information except the India specific site (Ultramile Tyre). Called up the distributor and he assured me on the quality and offered a replacement or refund if not satisfied. So went ahead and got the UM555. The deal was done and he shipped the tyres to Coimbatore.

So far I have done about 550kms and the tyres feel good. Will keep the thread updated as I clock more miles.

Post the tyre change, I did feel that I should have changed the earth1's much earlier. Could realise how hard the earth1's have become and the ride had improved so much.

Post that headed to ambal auto a.c. works to check on the a.c. blower noise. After the last cleaning of the blower, the noise reappeared in a months time when driving over a bad patch of road.

So this time, removed the blower again and lubricated the bushes. He confirmed the noise was from the bush and oiled them. So far the noise has not come back. I'll monitor the same for another 2 months before deciding it as resolved.

So far done 1900kms since the egr and manifold cleaning and oil has not reduced. Another 3000 kms and can see if the oil reduction is fully resolved or not.

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Chennai to Coimbatore on Oct 21:

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-b4787f99391f02c50eb5bc1c6a59d6441.jpg

Route: Shollinganallur-Thiruporur-Chengalpet-Ulundurpet-Veppur-Thalaivasal-Attur-Salem-Coimbatore

Tried the Ulundurpet-Veppur-Attur for the first time. The roads are in good condition with hardly any traffic. This enables us to skip the first toll on the Ulundurpet-Salem stretch and joins back on NH near the 2nd toll. This route is definitely quicker and shorter by 1km. Though this is a state highway, I found that they are building a toll plaza in this 35kms stretch from Veppur to Thalaivasal. The toll is not yet operational. Will have to wait and watch. Do beware of monkeys in this stretch, they cross the roads in groups!

This is the how the road is:

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-veppur.jpg

Back to Bangalore yesterday. Felt that a late afternoon start isn't apt for CBE-BLR drives. Started around 3:45 PM and found truck traffic on the higher side.

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-335cd0378361ffa26893d3e7e1d875cc.jpg

Route: Coimbatore-Sulur-Karanampettai-Somanur-Karupathampatti-Salem-Hosur-Attibelle-Chandapura-Carmelram

Took the Karanampettai-Karumathampatti to beat the Avinashi road traffic which sort of keeps increasing day by day and made worse due to Diwali being around the corner. This also ensures that you can skip the Rs.85 toll on NH544.

Prior to this, found minor coolant traces from the water-pump. So I'm due to get the same changed soon. Will have to keep a close watch on the same and plan to get it fixed.

94,826 on the Odo and the oil consumption hasn't changed. Means it still reduces by about 300ml after a little over 3k kms.

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-1477896077077.jpg

Done 3400kms since service and that's how much its gone down on the dip stick.

The pcv valve is the next in list to be check/changed.

Little over 95700 on the Odo. Got the oil, oil filter and pcv valve changed on Friday at marvel erode.

This probably is the last step and will be interesting to see the oil levels post 3k kms from now.

Marvel still had Petronas Syntium and hence stuck to the same.

The oil separator hose had also cracked (which was visible only after removal of pcv) but unfortunately they didn't have the part in stock but sourced similar house from outside and fixed it.

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Post service, the next day was at RM. Had got a good deal on a used set of Morel Tempo Ultra and so got them installed. The current Morel Tempo 6 will make its way to my dad's Linea soon. Then went over to 3M for a well deserved foam wash. Sunday was full rest for the car and Monday morning started back to Bangalore.

4am start seems perfect and coupled with no-toll ensured that I saved 45mins minimum. Below is the drive stats:

@h14 - Thank you for keeping this thread live! I recently purchased a Used Linea 1.3 MJD EP 90k driven but maintained very well. I am enjoying the comfort, power and safety of the vehicle. It's been almost 2 months now, no issues till last week.

Till Last week AC was effective and I set the temperature to the outside temperature (for the first time), Post which the AC vents are blowing only hot air even when I set the temperature to "LO". Not sure why this is happening. Hope you will be able to help me out.

Sorry for the dumb question, but are you sure the compressor switch is "ON"? Asking since you are new to the car and might not have noticed and that only the blower is on.

Try keeping in "LO" or any temp less than outside and then press the "Auto" and see if you have any diff. If so its fine, else you will have to visit either FASS or some AC mech.

Did a drive to ooty last week. Was a quick visit spanning just 2 days.

Some pics

At Lawley. Place was literally empty.

Same was the case with the Botanical Gardens.

Evening temperatures were in single digits and I woke up to see this the next day. Maybe it was lower than 6 in the night!

Then on Friday, Dec 9, visited True Sai, Salem for some works. Service camp was on and hence it was the best time.

Got the water pump changed. Though the leak was minor, decided to change it to avoid any sudden failures. They suggested changing the packing would stop the leak, but since car has done close to 1 lakh, they suggested to replace.

I additionally requested to replace the aux belts and diesel filter. The diesel filter was last changed around the 60k mark. The belts are stock ones, but True Sai inspected the belts and reassured me that they are good enough for more and hence didn't change them.

Next was wheel alignment which was time consuming. The rear needed shims and was done. I do still have minor left pull which I'm planning to check on my next visit as it was very late.

The bill

re: Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & Counting!!

Opened up the engine bay on Saturday (Dec 17) morning and my heart was in my mouth. I was able to see black marks in the coolant tank! I was like "not again". The coolant level was at the min mark (after water pump change, I parked car at home and didn't drive for close to a week) and could see areas of black stain on the top walls of the tank. The old stains in the sides were from the previous incident of the oil cooler.

I was really frustrated and called by the SM of True Sai Salem. A quick check and they confirmed part was available and so I had to cut short my vacation by 2 days and started immediately to Salem.

This I thought was the beginning stage of the oil cooler failure and hence drove sedately. Took a couple of breaks to ensure issue hasn't aggravated and reached Salem by lunch time.

There were no new traces and no mixing of oil with coolant. It was only the marks on the tank that worried me. Waited till the technicians were back from lunch and they checked and weren't convinced that it was oil cooler failure.

Discussed and deliberated on the same and decided to remove and clean the tank. It was done in double quick time and post cleaning too the supposedly new stain did not go. As per my calculation if this had happened recently then it would have gone in the cleaning process. But that wasn't the case. Maybe with the low fluid level the stain looked obvious and caused me to worry.

So post cleaning, topped up fresh coolant and also clicked a pic of the tank for future reference. Will change the tank probably during the oil change so as to avoid such scenarios.

This is after cleaning:

Code6'd Fiat Linea MJD: 100,000 kms & counting!-p_20161217_143445_1_p_1.jpg

Drove back to Bangalore from there and there has been no signs of anything 'black'. Hopefully this was a misunderstanding from my side and thanks to True Sai for the proper analysis and suggestion. At that time frame I would have changed the oil cooler due to past experiences!

The odo is now inching towards 98,600.
