Regarding the tyre mismatch apparantly it has its pros as on a recent visit to Gangtok I saw a lot of Innovas being driven with bigger tyres up front in plains and switched to rear in hills. The drivers say they give more grip on turns while aiding braking during driving in plains.

Right now, I don't have any complaints. The two tyres were part of a failed experiment and since the tyres were needed for a long trip, they were used and they continue to be in use.

These are about 15000kms old. My right rear is 38000kms old (stepney before that) and the left rear is 50000kms. The stepney is a 12000kms old tyre with a bulge and a tube inside.

Eventually these should be corrected!

My Marina finished its 50000kms service on 24/11/2008 with the odo at 45988kms.

The expenses were Rs 2945.57 (Spares 1490.51 + Labour 1174.16 + Wheel alignemnet 280.90). With this my total service expenses stand at Rs 21652.64 (Re 0.43 per km). the last tank fill was at 50001kms and it has consumed 3641.13 litres of diesel (ordinary and premium) worth Rs 129314.78 giving 13.98kpl overall with AC throughout (Rs 2.59 per km) and the daily average run is 45kms.

The under bonnet cleaning is generally good, but could have been better. I have put up close ups of the intercooler for comments. And as usual the oil level is above the maximum level post filling.

There was some noise suspected to be from the suspension and the left front tyre showed a little more outside wear than the right. The noise was cured by the caliper shim. Wheel alignment was out and corrected as per the service staff.

No shock absorber or brake pad changes so far. The battery also is fine, so far. AC has not been touched so far and the cooling is excellent.

1) Your INTERCOOLER FINS are WAY too Good Rajesh. Just that the 1st day pics we out-of-focus. Dont worry about them anymore.

2) OIL > Toplevel? Now why does TATA STRONGLY NOT recomend that? My dad told me the Oil Pressure will be WAY TOO high and cause it to leak from head gasket or valve-door? Please check and comment if you know the 'ill-effects'.

Thanks. Until the comments before, I never bothered to look at the intercooloer. So now I will keep a look at it as and when the bonnet is opened.

Yes, the toplevel! At least in the Marina, I have seen it before after a fresh fill. There is hardly any oil consumption even after 10000kms and so it is a 10000kms oil change for me from now on.

I have had no oil leaks so far and so I let ti be! I can experiment only with my car and so let this be a test case. But theoretically, more oil does cause those problems mentioned.

Since I have recorded the pre and post service engine bay pictures, you can see for yourself that there are no oil stains.

You should have seen the Honda engine bay after my 20000km service, spotlessly clean. I did not have my camera then. Since it is a 55 kms run home, I never bothered to take a picture later. I will do it before / after my next service.

On 10/12/2008 with the odo at 50700kms the car visited the service centre for a humming sound. As suspected it was the right rear wheel bearing.

On 16/03/2009 Pollution certificate was renewed. Paid Rs 60.00

On 21/03/2009 the OEM battery was replaced with a New Tata Gold battery 55D26R was put in. The odo was 54320kms. The Battery was Rs 4321.00 and the old battery fetched Rs 721.00. So I paid Rs 3600.00 for the battery.

It went for its 55000kms service with the odo at 55489kms.

We did complain of noise from the front suspension. the left side ball joint was replaced. The left side seat belt is not working, the reeling back of the belt is not happening.

They don't have a seat belt to rpelace. Other work was done which included a ball joint replacement on the left side.

The details of the Rs 1286.51 is as follows:

At the end of all this, the service and maintenance costs stand at Rs 27382.38 whic is Re 0.48 per km.

The last tank full was with the odo reading at 55358kms (which translates to 56603kms with the correction for the downsized front tyres). The diesel put in so far is 4048.88 litres of a vlaue of Rs 144147.00 which translates to Rs 2.60 per kms on an overall average of 13.98kpl of AC driving. The cars running is 44kms per day until now.

The oil level has held up after 5501kms. Sorry for the not so good image as it was left handed eddort on my own with a camera phone.



The oil level is at the maximum. Though the colour is black, there is no graininess in the oil.

Whoa trrk chetta, only ~ INR 600 for a wheel bearing change? Your City CVT's bearing costs nearly ten times that. Or am I missing something obvious?

That is exactly the what I have been billed and so I guess it is correct. Exactly why these TATA vehicles are cheap to maintain.

I am glad that I have extended warranty in my CVT.

While doing that I just clicked the oil filter.



Interestingly, it says change every 7500kms for diesel engines. The TATA service schedule is oil and filter change every 10000kms.

I put this up just to start a little discussion on this subject.

My car (Sep 2005) came with a oil change schedule of 7500kms. But I have shifted to a 10000kms interval on my own. I am yet to see any 'cons'. The 'pros' is definitely the reduced oil change frequency.

Somewhere down the line, TATA shifted to a 10000kms oil change interval for the turbo engines. Hence I shifted.

Could somebody with a 10000kms oil change interval in their service booklet confirm the oil filter part number?

What about your Marina?

The part number of the oil filter last put in my car is as follows:
279018130106 - Oil Filter Indigo - 1@ 141.41

Could some Indigo / Marina petrol owners also chip in?

the free service coupons which came with my indica had 7.5k intervals printed on them, but they were printed over with 10k intervals instead. Will post them once i get home

Ill check it right now and let you know pronto. Mine service intervals also had 7.5 K with 10K intervals printed over.

Sorry, the filter is not as readily visible as in yours. Plus I have some yellowish liquid splashed over the right side of the engine compartment. Cannot locate the source but it is in small pools around the front shocker strut mounting bracket. I am going to the service station right now and will let you know.

The part number is similar in mine too. 279018130106 cost 141.33 including VAT. Mine also says 7500 km but service advisor says to stick to 10K intervals.
