Renault Kwid 'Avengers Superhero' edition to be launched soon

Renault is planning to launch another special edition of its most selling car, the kwid. After the climber edition now comes the Avengers superhero edition based on the Marvel's avengers series.
IMHO this is just stupid and Renault should carry out changes that actually make a difference.

Pardon me couldn't resist. What next? How about a Powerpuff girls and a Chota Bheem variant as well ?
I believe these limited editions are selling more in number than the regular plain clothed Kwids. They need to come up with a better idea of marketing and selling, else they will slowly see themselves out of the top 10 cars sold/month list.

Will these editions really make any sort of a bump in the sales? Who thinks of all this? Some besotted marvel fanboy at Renault marketing I suppose

Seriously Renault, one more of those fancy multiple colour sticker editions??

They could have done better by providing a passenger airbag with ABS and there will certainly be customers willing to pay the extra for these safety features.

Renault should really consider another 'edition' with safety features which actually improve the car's worth.

The sales of the Kwid have already taken a big hit last month and this is what Renault comes up with??

While these cheap sticker job helps mass market, it also helps Renault clear its inventories. I presume they have quite a lot of 2017 manufactured Kwids, which will be very difficult to sell without promotion/discount/goodies.

Pardon me but after reading this, only 2 words come to my mind:

"Hulk, SMASH!"

And the green-faced monster swats away all the Kwids around him like flies, with a smirk and a roar.

OT, but couldn't resist. (I am a huge Marvel & Avengers fan)

Sadly, one doesn't need the Hulk to smash a Kwid out of shape. Even Mr. Tony Stark can do this without his suit. Just ask Global NCAP. #SaferCarsForIndia

Renault is doing this to influence the young ones at home. Even home ministers won't be able to win an argument once the young Marvel fans take a stand.

While this edition appears to be lame, let's not exaggerate. In each of the last 6 months, the Kwid has sold 7,000 - 8,000 cars. That's huge for a lightweight brand competing in the same segment as heavyweights Maruti & Hyundai.

The Kwid is a smash hit for its maker.

There is a decline of 21.3% in sales for Renault at the beginning of 2018. They have to do something different to get back on track.

Re: Renault Kwid 'Avengers Superhero' edition to be launched soon

The only saving grace for the Kwid was its similarity to the duster. Now that the duster is dated and better options are available for just about 50k more than the top end Kwid, its obsolescence is inevitable. It costs 5 Lakhs for the top end model, and you get a car that weighs less than 700 Kg, has weak plastics and is supported by a company that has limited respect for Indian consumers.

I loved the Kwid. I was really happy that someone took cues from the nano and the Alto and decided to make a car that was reliable, safe and good to drive. One test drive made me rethink my opinion. The glove box lid, which looked solid, broke just as I pressed it (used to a Nano- not too harsh), the engine noise was a little bit more than the Nano and the drive was very similar, and felt more unsafe since there was no high-speed stability to speak of.

Considering the low-cost, poorly made nature of products that Renault has given this market after the Kwid, the "Avengers" edition is no surprise. I doubt how many customers in the target market are aware of the Avengers. But word of mouth percolates faster than newspaper advertisements in this segment. Let's hope the results are depicted in the upcoming sales figures. Even the ageing Wagon R or the Tiago is a much better buy than the Kwid at 5 lakhs.

Re: Renault Kwid 'Avengers Superhero' edition to be launched soon

When I came across this thread, I had a feeling there was more to it than it just being another "stickered limited edition". Considering the Avengers as a movie franchisee and Renault as a car manufacturer, this had to be a typical case of cross-industry advertising.

A quick Google search led me to this article; turns out Marvel has quite a few corporate relationships for advertising: Renault, Ford and Audi included.

Here's the relevant piece on Renault.

Quote:
To present your new car, Renault Kwid, Renault made an exclusive commercial for Brazil. The video brings Hulk saving the city center of São Paulo from a mass destruction that would be caused by a satellite. Meanwhile a man driving a Kwid follows his path to save victims in a building, and undergoing several difficult obstacles that the car can handle. Hulk jumps from the Banespa Building and manages to blow up the satelite, the man also saves them. But in the end it was all the man's imagination that went through a Hulk leaflet as he drove. This was the first commercial shot in Brazil in partnership with Marvel Studios.

Re: Renault Kwid 'Avengers Superhero' edition to be launched soon

That is the strangest limited edition name/ theme I have heard in a while!

Kudos to the Renault India marketing team anyway.
The poor guys are working day in and day out to invent limited edition themes from anything that comes in their sight.
This time it was Marvel Comics that caught their attention, but very soon it could be day-to-day household items like vegetables, furniture etc.

More than anything, I think this would be a great inspiration to our limited edition king, MSIL.
When global brands are launching foreign super-hero limited editions, Maruti can launch our own desi super-hero "Shaktiman Edition Alto-800".

If you are out of petrol, just say "Sorry Shaktiman" 5 times, and the car will whirl itself and take you to the nearest petrol station.
