SX4 to form basis for Maruti's next sedan

Just happened to read an interesting article on suzuki SX4 in Overdrive and Motoring mag. It looks quite good and good be a launched in sedan and SUV platform

Some excerpts from the same
http://www.overdrive.in/showstory.php?storyid=81
http://www.bsmotoring.com/2006/mar04_2.htm

Suzuki has unveiled the SX4, a mini SUV that is based on the Swift platform. SX4 which is created as a result of a joint development agreement between Suzuki and Fiat Auto SpA signed in April 2003, is an extended and raised Swift platform that comes with switchable three-mode 4x4 system for 2WD, 4WD Auto mode and 4WD Lock mode.
The SX4 is important in the Indian context as it will form the basis of Marutis next offering for India in the mid sized segment, a booted Swift if you like. It would essentially be the Baleno replacement. The underpinnings are likely to be more or less similar to the Swift currently available here, while the styling would be take a detour of sorts from the small car design, and would be closer linked to that of the SX4.
Logically, Maruti might the launch the SX4 in India too, especially considering the economics. However that would happen on a much latter date. The mini-SUV which is more car like, would compete against the more affordable SUVs here today.
The SX4 meanwhile, 60,000 units of which would be produced on an annual basis, 40,000 for Suzukis European market and 20,000 for Fiat, is currently sold in two variants. The Urban Line emphasises passenger car characteristics with fewer SUV design elements whilst the Outdoor Line is distinctly more of an SUV in appearance. SX4 comes with a choice of three engines; 1.5- litre petrol that produces in excess of 100PS joined by the 1.6-litre 108PS unit and a 1.9 -litre oil burning unit that develops a good 120PS of power. The engines are meshed to a 6-speed manual gearbox with 4x4. The SUV also gets ABS and EBD part of active safety features.

Starting price in the UK is nearly £10,000 (just under RS8 lakh) for the entry level 1.6GL.

Somebody at Vipul Motors (Maruti dealer at Faridabad) had told me that the next car from Maruti would be a diesel car positioned above the Baleno. Could he be referring to SX4 derived sedan? Also, does it mean that it will have the 1.6 litre version of the FIAT diesel that Maruti will be manufacturing soon? 1.3 diesel would be too small for a car positioned above the Baleno.

This wont come under a sedan category, its a slightly elongated version(length wise) of the Swift.

i know from my sources and I'm have more than 100%
confident that the SX4 will aviable in India.
I also expect that it will arrive in indian's showrooms
around Q4 this years.

if it's use M16A engine as it use in EU markets.
the price of FWD version will start around 6.6 lakh or
if it's share engine with other Maruti's model the price
may cheaper than 6.6 lakh.
