Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Scorpio numbers at 4144 , I was expecting the sales to go down based on the recent price hikes.

Japs selling less numbers could be due to tsunami effect.

1500 Honda City to 2800 Ventos. Is that the final nail in the coffin for Honda? Its only going south from here with both the New Verna and Fiesta set for a launch in this month.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

57 Cayennes! The Cruze beating the Altis! The City plummeting to all-time lows. 8000+ Hyundai i20s.

What a month. Maybe Toyota might be affected by the Japan situation? Honda's performance all round is quite shocking. The Vento beats the City again, but this segment is bound to really heat up now, with two new launches imminent.

172 Captivas and 200+ Endeavours isn't enough of a wake-up call for HM? The Outlander sold 40-odd, disproportionate to how capable a vehicle it is.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

1. It seems this month the sales have decreased a bit compared to last month. Price increase? tax increase a reason?

2. AStar numbers have reduced a lot. The difference between Beat and Spark has widened.

3. Linea figures have increased marginally ( last month I think it was in 700's). Old Fiesta doing healthy numbers keeping in mind that the new fiesta is round the corner. Vento again toppin the charts in its segment. Sx4 diesel keeping Maruti in the C-segment battle. The numbers of Verna's sold is high given that the launch of new Verna is on 11th May. Does this figure include some new Verna units too? Honda occupying 4th spot behind Verna and is clearly struggling.

4. The battle between i10 and Wagon R continues. Alto numbers have reduced by a huge amount. Dzire and Swift going strong as usual.

5. Polo also doing decent numbers. Nissan Micra also being consistent despite its thin dealer network.

I would think that Normally April numbers lag March numbers. Its very difficult to MOM lap on March and festive month's growth.
Despite a decline Honda City numbers going down to 1500 is surely a super alarm. will be interstiing how Honda responds.

Optra seems to be selling well despite the lack of support from Chevrolet to that line.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Look at the difference between Scorpio and Safari. More than 3 times.

Seems Beat have lost the charm. Spark sells much better. Time to get the Diesel version of Beat.

Cheers to TATA for crossing the 10K mark in Nano sales. Aria too, seems to be selling good numbers.

Tax increase explains it a little. However traditionally you see more sales in month of March compared to April. AFAIK the biggest reason is that, people buying in the name of companies advance their purchases to March whenever possible as they can claim depreciation at the end of the financial year.

Having said that, if I were a Honda exec - I would be worried... Really worried. And there is nothing in the horizon which can be relied upon to improve things.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Overall it seems a good month for Tata group. The Linea is holding its own in the face of the entry of the Vento, holding at the 700-1000 units per month. It seems the Vento has seriously eaten into the Honda City's share. Nano hitting 10grand a month. Aria has done a bit better in April I think.

Other surprise, Palio in double digits, 19units!!!

Overall, though numbers after quite some time have actually seem to have fallen a bit with everybody having to hike prices. Also, many cars have sold less this April compared to last April.

Few points:
1. Almost All urban(hatch oriented) player are having dip in sales.
2. Respect Bolero with 73XX. Rural India loves this beast.
3. Vento vs City is as interesting as ever. Wait boys two more are coming!
4. I can not translate Polo figures. Can any body help here to understand? Was that a production jump?

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Kizashi only 35 units,a decrease from last months 135 odd.

Verna still managed to sell 1,800 units pretty impressive considering that the new one isjust around the corner.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Hmmm. Some observations...

* Nano seems to be doing some seriously good numbers, finally!

* Tatas are doing fair monthly numbers with their Indica and Indigo combine.

* Skoda sales are definitely not going anywhere. When your cheapest car also manages to sell only 1500 odd numbers you definitely need to look deeper.

* Has Skoda stopped producing the Octavia? Why are there no numbers against it?

* Mitsu in India is just killing time. They should seriously fold up and leave. Otherwise they are doing a big disservice to their brand image. Tomorrow if they have a change in plan and wish to get serious also about the Indian market they will find themselves unable to sell because of the tremendous ill will they would have garnered.

* What happened to Honda?!!! They are fast getting relegated to the also-run category. Only 2012 cars in the entire month, with all their offerings taken together. Thats lesser number than even Fiat whose image woes just refuse to go away (and as a result sales refuse to go up).

* The rate at which VW is growing in India we may soon have a new challenger to the throne. And this when VW was supposed to have no proper offerings for the Indian market. Good going indeed.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I think people have got bored of the Honda City. Vento is the new City. IMO Vento will rule the C segment for many months to come with the 2nd position being fought over by Sx4, Verna and Fiesta. In this competition things are going to get worse for City and Linea. I think Honda should atleast start giving hefty discounts on City and Jazz and start working towards a diesel engine.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Indigo = 5282, looks like Etios effect. Tough time ahead for Indigo Manza as Etios catches up and new DZire round the corner.

Some observations: Total sales put on by Fiat = 2049, Honda = 2012 where as Ford = 7319. IMO Brio will be Honda's best bet and for Fiat it will be 'new small car = Palio replacement'.

Micra : 1198? What's wrong with Micra?
