As per the circular by IRDA dtd 27th May 2012 directed to all General Insurers in particular for Motor Insurance, a web based facility is enabled to ascertain Insurance particulars of Motor vehicles by the Insurance information bureau which acts as the Insurance data repository of IRDA to collect collate and compile motor Insurance data. This was done to assist the Motor accident victims by providing access to the Insurance information.

The web portal of IIB allows the Motor accident victims to access the Insurance information to enable expediting of the motor claims. IIB has provide the access to general public to insurance status of motor vehicles for year 2011 and 2012.
