I'd mentioned this car once on team bhp as well. |

Thanks for your kind words, guys! 'gave me some hope!
'got a chance to finally see the car up close today. And needless to say, made me feel all the more sad! The rear view pics. I took reminds me of the same angle at which I'd first seen the car in our old colony!
I remember it had a "PRESS" sticker in the rear windscreen, RH or LH top corner.
But I agree with Cyrus- the car still is very much restorable. It is still thankfully 'unmolested', much as was when I'd last seen it. 'has even fewer rusty panels (for now atleast) than my Pennant did and no dents at all (the right rear fender seems to have had some denting done though)...and the bumpers and front grille are amazingly straight and spotless (no dings, dents etc!!)
I cant help admiring how well the car was maintained by Mr. Iyengar!
Even the interior is all-original, maybe with the original upholstery under the cloth covers (which were put on by him, as told by his daughter), even the original wipers seem intact!
But I also pity the old gent for having trusted this mech. above anyone else that made him entrust his car in the latter's hands!
IMHO, had he just let the car lie at his place until now, even without using it, it would've still been far better than it is now!
Worse still- I spoke to the mech. today about selling the car (to a friend of mine.) He wants 75k for it, as it is now!!
I offered him 1/2 of what he demanded and he retorted that had he wanted that much, he could've sold the car long ago! 'challenged me that in another month's time, he can do it up for 10-15k easily and sell it restored for 1 lac right in front of me! Ha!
I felt a surge of rage as well as grief about what he's done to the car, added to his absurd demand!
A real you-know-what of the first order!!
I left it at that today but hope to work out something soon! Especially since the resident of the govt. bungalow where it's parked tells me that there is going to be some consruction work sanctioned soon in the compound (hence the sand in the bcakground) and the entire place would have to be vacated!
